I wanted to like this hostel but - having stayed in dorms in 60+ countries - this is one of the worst. I checked out 2 days early even though they didn't give me a refund; it was that bad. The vibe is like a bunch of teens living in a shared apartment - cigarette butts on the balcony, broken locks in the dorms, ants crawling all over the bathroom and kitchen sinks.

Pros: 
- great location
- attentive staff who try to clean up after the guests (who leave their dishes all over the kitchen counter)

Cons: 
- 5 flights of stairs. If you return at night, the stairs have no lighting so you have to use your phone flashlight.
- ants all over bathroom and kitchen sinks
- kitchen and living area are dirty (bags, leftover food, half-filled cups, cigarette butts, etc everywhere. Lots of litter.) 
- bathroom is so cramped that your elbow hits the wall when you turn around to flush the toilet
- shower is lukewarm at best and changes hot/cold wildly
- bunk beds are shaky and show their age
- dorms don't lock. One night, a guy wandered in while I was in bed and said he was looking for his friend... Didn't feel totally safe...

A nightmare, not a fairy tale

Extremely unprofessional, disorganised and messy setup. It felt like someone’s apartment with bunk beds in a couple rooms. The rooms are also particularly small and cramped… my bed was next to the Air Conditioning so I was freezing all night! Lockers were broken and small, alongside the room being so small it was impossible to organise yourself. The kitchen area and common area felt like a hangout for the staff. There was only one bathroom for women, which was extremely uncomfortable. Given the lack of options in Split, I feel they have taken advantage of this aspect. The staff generally were rude and made it seem like a hassle if you had a request and at points ignored our presence, alongside getting us confused with other guests both in checkin and checkout. Moreover, the hostel was always open and security was minimal, anyone could walk in. Staff were also not always present and often just relaxing or not in the vicinity.

AMAZING!
Went on holiday too split with my friend decided too book a hostel for the first time as it was cheaper. But didn’t expect how much both of would enjoy it. Met so many knew people and it’s been life changing decided we’d love too travel. The staff were amazing so helpful and more like Friends. Thanks again! Highly recommend too anyone!

I went as a solo backpacker and even during this covid time I never felt alone. First, I booked just for 3 nights and I stayed three weeks ! Just imagine how amazing my stay there was ! The view is amazing, there is a lot of beautiful lights and space in the rooms, the owners and staff are so kind they welcome everyone so well. Really really good vibes, I strongly recommend. I’ll definitely come back !

Amazing experience in Backpackers fairytale !

Don't let the flight of stairs you have to climb put you off. It is an incredible place to stay. The owner is really friendly and great at recommending things to do and places to see. Really knows his stuff! 

Amazing

I stayed at Backpacker’s Fairytale for four nights and had a great time. It’s on the 6th floor with no elevator, (so prepare to carry your bags!) but the views and overall vibes were worth it. I wish the kitchen was bigger and that there were more than the two showers/three toilets, but overall, I had no real issues. What really made the stay worthwhile was the hostel’s tour group- Unicorn tours to Krka waterfalls & the “secret beach”! Mala, our tour guide, was the most wonderful and fun person. She really made the tour memorable. Backpacker’s Fairytale & sister hostel Wonderful World are lucky to have her! If anything, this hostel is worth the stay just for Mala’s tour, which I recommend wholeheartedly. Thanks for such a memorable experience, Mala! 

UNICORN TOURS- A MUST!!!

This hostel is very laid back, the hosts live on site and have two lovely beautiful friendly dogs! They do not seem to be super serious about running the hostel. We practically had to beg them to check us in:) They were very accommodating when we asked to switch rooms because of snoring. The kitchen is a little dirty but we didn't use it. The bathrooms are a bit small but the hostel is the top floor of an apartment building so it is understandable. Overall, great unique hostel experience.

Amazing Experience!

I love, everything about this hostel...the owner's mom, the facilities, 3 toilets, 2 showers, super clean, beds are comfortable,  I even had my room solo, for 4 nites!!!! I don't understand previous ppl's reviews about it being dirty and only having 1 shower.  There are 3 toilets & 2 showers...they are all super clean!! Ppl need to read hostel conditions, 1st...it says there are dogs, but the dogs weren't there, when I was there, but I would have liked their company. I only have 2 complaints... a microwave would fit nicely, on top the fridge & the plug would fit nicely, right there. The other complaint is,   I pulled a box of tea, from  the 2nd shelf, atop the stove...and some maggots came flying down.. freaked me out. So you need to pull everything down, on the top 2 shelves and clean everything, above the stove! Sorry...

Love this Hostel

This hostel was truly above and beyond. They provide you with SO MUCH information, which was excellent for me as I had never been to Croatia before. Their excursions are lovely and I took them up on the waterfall one with the private beach -- it was incredible! The staff is amazing, the facility is nice, and it truly feels like HOME. I had trouble finding the hostel at first so be sure to walk up ALL the stairs to get to the top. I felt very safe staying at this hostel. If you cannot climb a lot of stairs or don't feel comfortable lugging lots and lots of luggage up many flights of stairs, this place is not for you.

INCREDIBLE - Will absolutely come again!

errible experience. Booked this place because it describes itself as friendly and very clean, but when we arrived it was clear the place was filthy. The bathrooms hadn't been properly cleaned in weeks - dust, hair and grime coated everything and the kitchen was disgusting. Initially, service was lovely and we were allowed to check in early. However, I sent an email expressing disappointment at my experience only to receive an aggressive and very defensive reply. Seems they're used to criticism.
