If a central location is important then Villa Devana might be a good choice for you.  There are some challenges though:

If you have a lot of luggage be aware the apartments (there are three of them) are fully 83 steps up from the rear car park. Or 55 steps from the front door.  

Antonio is the property manager. We found him quite friendly and helpful but he doesn't live on site, so you best call him about 30 minutes before arrival - then he can meet you with the keys (not sure what you'd do if you don't have a phone). 

Antonio also gave us a key card which provided secure parking in a multi level car park located 400 metres away. Or you might be able to park directly behind the complex if there is space available. 

On arrival we noticed the bed sheets were too small for the actual bed. Fortunately the hall closet was unlocked when we arrived so we changed over the sheets with some that fitted properly. 

The unit we had is sunny but faced the busy road, so it was very noisy with the windows open. And without the windows open there is no ventilation. The a/c works well though. 

The bathroom is small and the toilet is badly positioned near the wash basin, so it is hard to sit on for taller people. It would be better located where the bidet is - or dare I say better if the bidet was removed altogether in this case. No problems with the shower, which is new. Nowhere to hang towels though. 

We stayed four nights and the room was not serviced during our stay, which is OK for us but some may not like this.  

The kitchenette is very small and not well equipped.  What is there is mostly odds and ends, so you won't be doing much food preparation if you get the unit we had. Fortunately the best restaurants in town are directly across the road!

If you can work with all this then Villa Devana should be fine for you :-)



Mixed bag

We had booked two rooms for our stay at Villa Devana.  These people are cashing in on the fact that they are centrally located, but the rooms and service were extremely poor, and i would not recommend them to anyone.

Firstly when we arrived there was no one there to show us to the rooms so we had to wait around until the owner sent a friend to receive us.  Next we found out that the rooms were on the 4th floor.  Then one of the rooms had a shower door that was broken so my husband had to hold the door in place while i took a shower.  To make matters worse the extra bed in the other room was not made up and we were told we had to wait until 8 p.m. to get bedsheets etc!!!!  8 p.m. came and went and no sign of the sheets.  

We decided to go for dinner and then found out that one of the rooms had a strange key so we could not lock it.  We called the owner who does not live in the complex.  He arrived and was explaning to us how we had to hold the key etc.  That key looked like it had been left behind by the Romans when they first came to Croatia!!!!!

Horrible service, and the son of the owner did not think that this was an inconvenience to us. 

I would not recommend this hotel to anyone - just because they are centrally located they are taking advantage of the poor tourists.  

Look for another place you will do better trust me!!!!

One of the worst apartments we have stayed in during our trip to Dubrovnik

The apartment was on the 4th floor and it was exhausting to carry our luggage up there. The bathroom is badly designed so you have to sit sideways on the toilet. The shower door did not close properly. The cups and mugs were dirty, we had to rewash them. The lock on the door was very difficult to open, we had to call them to open the door. They charged for a third person, but had not made up the bed. There was no mattress on the extremely narrow third bed. We had to use the comforters.  Would not recommend this place

Unsatisfactory stay at Villa Devana

We spent a week in a studio at Villa Devana and were delighted by its central location in the middle of the city, close to the sea, restaurants and shops, as well as the market hall and the beautiful park. The accommodation is pleasantly furnished, very clean and tidy - and with a well-equipped kitchenette, air conditioning and soundproof windows, everything you need to relax is provided. Although not very large, it has everything you need and enough storage space. We especially enjoyed the fresh scent of the laundry!

Small but fine in Opatija

The 3 apartments are located in the center of Opatija, about 50 meters from the sea. What I didn't believe at first was that the beach is right next to the Longomare waterfront. A dream for every guest, because after check-in it takes exactly 3.5 minutes to swim in the sea... There is no reception like a hotel, so you have to set and agree on the arrival time quite accurately so that the keys are delivered and the bill paid in advance. If you travel by car, you should prepare for it so that it is not possible to check-in, but you will be generously provided with the free parking garage, which is included in the price - otherwise the price is very high for us to pay in the city.
