Hotel River View Tortuguero

We had a great stay for four nights at the River View hotel. The staff were lovely, the breakfast just right and the view from the balcony great for a peaceful morning and sunset viewing! Great chocolate cake from their bakery too!

The rooms were clean, the A/C worked well, showers are big and have hot water. 
I stayed in room 4 and, just like the others on the river side, it offers amazing sunset views from the terrace.
The hotel is nothing fancy but it's comfortable, well-located, clean, the breakfast is good... I think it's very good value for the price and, contrarily to some other reviews I read, I had no issues whatsoever with noise or anything else. Definitely recommended.

I'm writing this only about their restaurant, since we didn't stay in the hotel, allthough we wish we would have  because it seems like a nice spot. We had breakfast here with the most stunning view. The place is clean and the service quick and very friendly. This is sincerely the best food we had during our whole stay in Tortuguero: simple, fresh and fairly priced. As a vegan I was struggling in this town, but in this place I just got to order everything seperate and compose my meal to my liking, they were very flexible about it and I loved it! From the street side it looks like a random bakery, so it might be a little hard to find, but make sure to try. Highly recommend! 

Close to the main-quai fro an to Tortuguero, River View provides all you need on this beautiful island: Shower, bed, AC - and a bakery for earlybirds on the groundfloor. Beach, town or national park are easy to reach - and evenings and mornings provide magical views 

We found this hotel at a bargain price of 20$ per night and was afraid it was shady. 
Fortunately, we were lucky to find out a really nice and clean hotel with large rooms and amazing view.
All rooms have AC so no worries about the weather, since it gets extremely hot in the afternoon.
Make sure you book the rooms with the river view- it's a great bonus!
Danny was the English speaking host, and he did a great job- very friendly and informative.
We booked 3 tours from him and got a big discount. tony was our guide and he can see animals from a distance. We were lucky to see the green turtle hatching, and walked with them to the sea!
I highly recommend to bring food with you- there is no breakfast and everything is pretty expensive.

Perfect budget place to stay in the center of the little village Tortuguero and located by the river.

We loved the views , but what we didn't love was the owner trying to make us pay double , when we had already paid through Hotels.com , I was not impressed , then they tried to make us pay for breakfast which was complimentary . facilities barely any . Lovely view .

Exceeded expectations 

Magic view

The people/staff are great.  Very helpful and friendly.  Air conditioner worked well.  Power was consistent.  Noise was the most significant problem/irritation.  Easily correctable is noise generated by restaurant/bakery area below.  Tables and chairs in need of pads on legs to prevent/reduce loud/sharp noises when moved.  Quiet needs to be part of the morning routine.  Rollup doors on river and street sides are more quiet after I bought grease and applied to tracks.  However, dogs, dogs, dogs are the biggest problem of this area and Costa Rica in general.  Barking, pooping, fighting, garbage spreading, etc...  Nearly every non-rain day dogs woke me and/or routinely destroyed any resemblance of solitude in such a beautiful country.  Was in CR for 60 days.  45 in Cocles, 15 in Tortuguero.  Dog problem both areas.  My fifth and last time, for this problem has become increasingly more disruptive, affecting sleep and enjoyment of the visual treasures of CR.  Sad, and sorry that this love affair with a domestic animal is allowed to become such a destroyer of solitude, as well as driving wildlife farther into the jungle.  Sad, simply sad yet correctable.  
Additionally, Puerto Viejo to Manzanillo roadway was widened and stripped for faster connectivity.  Speed dramatically increased on this single roadway shared by cars, bicycles, pedestrians and dogs.  Take you life into your own hands now, for car and motorcycle speeds are unsafe for walking folks who often do not pay attention to the higher speed threat.  The laws of CR are not the problem.  The laws of Physics will prevail with human injury and death.  Sad, simply sad!

Improvement could be done easily...

This hotel has half of its rooms with view to the river. Those very simple rooms are also the ones without a/c. If the sun shines they get extremely hot. Furthermore they have no fly screens on the window, which does not allow to have the windows open. If you don't care about that, it's a good deal. 
P.s. The rooms with a/c are like a prison cell, dark and unfriendly. That's why we decided to switch to the "sauna" room with beautiful view of the river.
