We were traveling with another couple and we given a cabin. It was very nice to have the full space to ourselves. We were placed in this location as part of a tour with Greenworld Tours, it was not chosen by us and had we been in control of this, we’d likely not have booked here. 
The owners, Carlos and Rosanna were very kind hosts and we all enjoyed meeting them but Monteverde was cold and wet and windy beyond our imagination. We had absolutely no hot water to shower with and asked that it be looked at. We were told it was and it was good to go. It was not and never was. We realized we were visiting a rain forest but hadn’t expected that we wouldn’t have been able to warm up in a shower and a dry towel. 
All towels were damp and cold. Sleeping at night was freezing. 
It felt very much like we’d gone to a summer camp rather than a Costa Rican resort. 
A hot tub would have been an amazing option. 
There was no wifi available other than at the main cabin and it was spotty at best. 
We were there 3 days/2 nights and we all agreed we were more than ready to leave. 
We were invited to a bbq by the hosts and upon leaving, were charged per person for the meal. We likely would have gone anyway, but a heads up to the added charge woukd have been nice.  

Would not recommend. 

Our High School took a culture trip to Costa Rica. This was our first leg of our tour. The cabins are quaint and rustic. The suites have more amenities but our regular room was spacious. The people here are wonderful. The food is authentic although they did make spaghetti one day for the kids! The grounds are stunning and it is a ranch so make sure to walk to the stables and introduce yourself to the animals. Remember that they are eco friendly and clean your plate into the slop bucket for the pigs... happy pigs. Gracias Rancho Makena!!!

So beautiful and accommodating

I couldn't be happier with our four day stay at Rancho Makena.  The few is incredible, accommodations where awesome and the hospitality was second to none.  I have problems walking so I was told if I need a ride to the office or restaurant to just call the office and when I did Carlos would be down to get us in his H3 in less than a minute.
He was Jonny on the spot every time.  We got rides down to the town every day.
We couldn't be happier with our stay there and would stay again if we get down that way.

Awesome

Actually traveled there DEC 2017.  Going back APR 2019.  Very nice place.  Clean and safe.  (not a party location) Very family oriented or for couples looking for a calm and quiet retreat.  Breakfast was great.  BB-Q was very nice.  The rooms were cozy and rustic...listening to the wind of the Cloud Forest.  The owners were personable, friendly, helpful, and we felt like visiting family members.  The adventure tours are walking distance from the lodge.  We loved staying there.  We are planning a second trip to Costa Rica and have planned to stay there again just to re-visit our 'ol friends.  Recommend the walk from Rancho Makena into town...via the night trail.  (during the day of course)  Looking forward to our next visit. -- Iris & Marty

I stayed here in early March and loved it so much. This hotel was by far my favorite place to stay while in Costa Rica. There were hammocks out side the rooms, the owner was so friendly and helpful, the breakfast was good, and the location is break taking. The owner helped me and my brother find our way to town by walking, offered to make me a special vegetarian dinner, provided extra blankets for the cold, and even gave me a small birthday present. The rooms were simple and clean. Perfect relaxing getaway.
