Puerto Viejo

Jungle rustic with some big caveats future lodgers need to know about.  The big one, there is no potable water. That means you can't drink the water out of the tap or brush your teeth with it.   I have no idea what the water contains that would make it not potable. 

Second, the smell of mildew is very prevalent.  See pictures attached and you will know why.  A gallon of bleach would make a big improvement here. Walls, furniture have mildew.

The bathroom toilet and sink could use a good deep clean. 

The good things. It is a jungle experience.  We heard the monkeys early in the morning,  which is great.  The lodge is easy to get to. 

I hate writing a review like this.  And I know it's not Miami Beach and it's not supposed to be.  But I do expect that if you can't drink the water,  you would get a heads up.

Caution:  Great jungle location. Nonpotable water in cabin,  mildew and dirty

You have to rent bikes in Puerto viejo to get there (we used the bikes for the beach, restaurant and so on) The bungalows are surrounded by the jungel. Every days we have toucans (go on YouTube for the sound to help you to spot them) and agoutis (they love our mangos)

We spent four exhausting nights in a cabin in the middle of the jungle. Every morning when the monkeys were screaming, we woke up to the famous green frog with red eyes and the yellow snake of the schlegel. Obviously toucans, acorns, night lights, etc. We took the time to walk around the cabin. The owner was very nice, we had a good chat. He made good breakfast. We had a car and we recommend it because the center is a bit far away.

A unique backdrop and experience

My daughter and I chose this place for two nights. The owner was very kind, she showed us lazy people and a family of howling monkeys. We were barely three or four meters away from these animals. We felt welcomed and safe. It's a little far from the city (about 45 minutes' walk, or 3,500 to 4,000 colonies for a taxi), but that's the price to pay for being in the jungle, so close to the animals.

Welcome to the jungle!

This simple accommodation is located in the jungle near Porta Viejo and beautiful beaches! The rooms are sober, but what a place you never get tired of hanging out in the hammocks on the terraces. If you want to go to the National Park, it's your choice but here you find most of the species in freedom... toucans, sloths, squirrels, tapirs, monkeys, birds of all kinds, paka, red-eyed raynettes... The guests are in the care of the little ones: advice, continental breakfasts, and discussions so refined! They have an incredible lifestyle! We recommend this nature and natural habitat!

Welcome to the jugnle!

Every day you will wake up with a new animal outside your room, such as sloth bear, monkeys, ranitas and luciérnagas. I think it was in this place that we could have a deeper contact with the flora and fauna of Costa Rica. Regarding the location, it is a little far from downtown but if you have a car or bike it will not be a problem. Irene (host) always with the positive attitude to show you the beautiful place. The pieces are as simple as the bathroom, but they worry about doing it every day and having clean toilet paper or towels.

Beautiful place in the middle of the jungle.

We've already been to Irene and Wolfgang twice and we're already looking forward to our next vacation at the Jungle Lodge. Sitting alone on the beautiful bungalow terrace with plenty of different plants and animals around, it's worth a trip. Nowhere else have we been able to relax so many animals up close. The fairies have grown especially close to our hearts, but so have the many other 'visitors' such as the Jungle Lodge, the Leguane, the brilliant Rota frosts and many more. and Irene Wolfgang must be enchanted if you want to give yourself a very tasty piece in the morning and next good tips for entertainment in the surrounding area. Generally speaking, the two mornings are super friendly and you'll feel welcome to visit the wonderful city of Puerto Riko. Anyone who wants to experience the beautiful wildlife of the Strait of Irena can find everything you want to do in this beautiful city.

A small paradise

A place to enjoy nature at its finest.  Great host great nature,  not for city folks or people afraid of nature. Lots of creatures to entertain you.  Highly recommend.  Close to town and beach but far enough to enjoy peace of mind 

Bongo in jungle 

We spent two nights at Irène's and her husband's house in total calm in the heart of the rainforest. We wanted to be near puerto viejo, while staying in the calm of the night festivities of the small village, perfect compromise! Irène is a very friendly hotel, speaks French and is passionate about nature, she showed us animals several times a few meters from us (yellow snake nestled on a leaf, lazy). The plus: bike rental on site for a few settlers (we went to Manzanillo 10km away, stopping on the road on paradise beaches) and the possibility of having lunch on the terrace as an option to watch the monkeys or be lazy in the morning! Bins... we have our eyes full during the day and night, as we love the nature and we recommend you to take in the sun or the sun or the other lights, we will be able to see the monkeys or the lights of nature as soon as possible!

Paradise in the heart of the jungle!

In my opinion, a place to relax, very cozy.Each room contains a bathroom with hot water and a hammock that overlooks the forest where animals can be observed.The lodge offers room cleaning, breakfast (delicious, prepared by the owner), bicycle rental.It is relatively close to all the beaches (Puerto Viejo, Cocles, Manzanillo).Irene's (the owner's) attention is excellent, super pleasant.All I can say is that the place needs a little more labeling at the entrance, however, 100% recommended.
