Poas Lodge

I found this quaint place up on a mountain through a good friend of mine that has stayed here before. I wanted to surprise my wife for our anniversary this year with a trip we wouldn't forget. Well, Matt(the operator) and his people gave me exactly what I was looking for. Matt arranged for us to have a driver/tour guide for the 4 days we would be in C.R. the guide (Fransisco) picked us up from the airport and drove us up to the lodge. Along the way he gave us some history and took us to a few shops along the way . The direct way there from the airport is about 45min-1 hour, depending on traffic. When we arrived, we were shown our room and given a short tour of the lodge. We were greeted with and AMAZING view of San Jose and Alajuela. You're literally ABOVE some of the clouds! The fie and I took a short walk up the road to the restaurant/bar that sits about 200ft from the lodge. We had some drinks, food and we went back to the lodge for the night. The next morning, Matt made us delicious pancakes as requested, and it was planned that we would travel to the west coast and stay the night there and experience what C.R. had to offer along the way. Fran gave us more history and took us to see a few things "off the beaten path". The next day, Fran promptly picked us up as planned and took us back to the lodge. Along the way we stopped for food, drinks and an ATV excursion. Back at the lodge, Matt prepared a great dinnerand drinks for us. We came back to a clean room and once again, spent the night in AWE of the view. In the morning Matt, prepared a more, local breakfast that was delicious as well. Fransisco took us back to the airport, again making stops to checkout a few places that he recommended and got us back to the airport in plenty of time as we were not rushing to leave Costa Rica. We look forward to going back to the lodge in the winter!
