Cabinas Las Tinajas

My wife and I have a "narrow-but-deep" travel philosophy. We don't try to pack a lot of activities or destinations into our travel. We'd rather stay in one place long enough to get the vibe of a place and its people, find spots we like and return the next day/later in the week, spend plenty of un-scripted time, etc. Las Tinajas was the perfect home base for us in La Fortuna. When I say "home" base, that's what it felt like. Dona Ligia made us feel so at home, we were almost embarrassed. She was hospitable, personable, and sweet... always. She doesn't speak a lot of English and I speak only a little Spanish, but we had some wonderful conversations anyway. Our little apartment was so nice, we actually enjoyed spending a lot of time there - sitting on the porch, watching the neighbors, petting the dogs. There is nothing really "fancy" about this place. It was simple, clean, and affordable. It was also a block and a half from the town square, so we could walk to town and back multiple times a day. Don't miss Ms. Ligia feeding the birds on her porch in the morning. That was as good (or better) than a bird-watching tour.
