Hotel Playa Bonita

Our room was charming, clean and most comfortable. Our room look out on to the ocean - we could hear the waves at night which was so nice.Staff were wonderful and a nice breakfast. The restaurant looks out on the ocean - so nice. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend this hotel.

Stayed here over Christmas for my 40th birthday and have nothing but good things to say about them. The place was clean and beautiful and the food at the Restaurante Cocorri was phenomenal. But the most memorable part was the way they treated me when I got hurt. I tripped walking up the step and dislocated my pinky. Jeremy (I believe is the manager) drove me to the hospital himself, AND gave me cash for a ride back. ¡Excelentes hospitalidades!

I loved my ocean front room and it was very comfortable. I also enjoyed having breakfast overlooking the caribe.

Everyone welcomed me with open arms. Very attentive and helped me with anything I needed. Security called the cab and was rdy for me @530am. All around one of the best experiences I’ve had. Thank you all for a wonderful experience. Will see you all next year for sure. Pura Vida

I would have like to be able to walk to the beach without having to walk along the road.Better access would be appreciated.How can you have WiFi in the hotel but not on the TV.That was a really bad situation for me.Rooms were nice but an upgrade especially the bathroom would help.Staff was great n helpful.

Everything about our night here exceeded our expectations. As soon as we walked in, my husband said “this place is great.” We had a room on the front of the hotel over looking the water and the view was amazing. As soon as we put our luggage in our room, we headed to the pool to enjoy a drink overlooking the ocean. We ate dinner and breakfast at the restaurant and had a great table right on the water. The food was great. The staff and manager (Jeremy) were also great and offered to help line up transportation in case we needed their help.  It is also very close to the Moin Dock that offers boat rides to Tortuguero.

This hotel is simple but dignified, clean, and comfortable. The highlights are an impressive ocean view and easy access to a small beach/tide pool area, an unusually good restaurant and pool, and helpful staff. The Caribbean dishes are especially good if you need a change from the generally bland CR food. It is not walking distance from anything worth walking to, however, so a bit isolated that way.

Best quality for the price amongst ~10 hotels we visited all around in Costa Rica. The location is perfect with direct access to the beach (small but just enough for us!). The view is fantastic, and the service very nice.We weren't successful at the restaurant with the food, but the service made it up for it.

Nice and quiet!

I stayed here a week, great to drift off to sleep lulled by the surf crashing against the rocks. I had a third floor room, but away from the beach side. On stormy days, I could hear the surf over the a/c. Pretty nice facility, not real fancy, but adequate. Good showers, comfortable beds, overall pretty clean. Friendly people, they were quite helpful.

Check in was fast and cordial…got a room upgrade for an ocean view. Daily breakfast was very filling….appreciated our waitress…Patricia…service with a smile. I appreciated the candy basket at reception….they encouraged me to help myself with a sincere smile. A walk alongside the main highway to a nearby beach afforded us our daily exercise….collected shells…..saw a Sloth in the forest trees. Room was quite spacious…gorgeous view of the beach….shower had the hottest water with great pressure. Enjoyed the pool next to the restaurant. The services from the HR person….the manager…..our breakfast waitress…and room cleaner Sonja…were top notch! It felt like we were treated like family. I highly recommend this hotel…..beyond a five star rating!

My husband and I recently visited Costa Rica for our first time.  We wanted to see both coasts, so we first headed to Hotel Playa Bonita for two nights.  Getting there from San Jose Airport was a bit of an adventure due to major road construction on highway 32 (Nov 2021).  The hotel was easy to find.  Don't get discouraged as you're driving through construction and past the shipping harbor.  It's great once you arrive! 

Check-in at the hotel was a breeze.  We had a great room!  Third (top) floor with a window facing the beach.  The room was clean and the AC worked great.  The room reminded us of many of the properties we stay at when visiting Baja California, Mexico.  We're from San Diego, CA and drive down to Baja quite frequently.  The room has little quirks that are familiar to us and our style of travel, but may seem a bit "rough around the edges" for other travelers.  Overall, the room was GREAT!  Loved our stay!  Would recommend to most friends and family.  

The hotel restaurant and bar have a great open view of Playa Bonita.  We loved the breakfast that was included with our stay.  We also ate dinner both nights at the hotel restaurant.  We watched surfers while eating breakfast and enjoyed the sunset while eating dinner.  There are rocks and tidepools just below the hotel.  We spotted striped eels and red sea stars in the pools.  To get to the beach you can either walk along the road for 5 minutes, or carefully walk on the rocks to get to the sandy beach.  The water is warm and great for swimming.  Keep an eye on your stuff, or just leave everything in your room at the hotel.  

The hotel doesn't have a store/market, but there's a large market at the beach just 0.2 miles from the hotel.  

The hotel has a pool, which we did not use, but saw people swimming in it during our stay.  

All-in-all: We loved our stay at Hotel Playa Bonita.  We loved that there we hardly any Americans there (we may have been the only ones).  Playa Bonita is a great hub for visiting Cahuita National Park where we saw monkeys, racoons, sloth and iguana.

I stayed there a few times. One time I left over 500 $ in the room. The staff found it and returned it to me in total honesty. Just for that I give them a 20 if I could. 

Rooms are good. Food is excellent. But the best part is the people who work there and run it. You go there and you may be sure you are in great hands.

I have only good to say about them. It was an honor to get to know the staff.

We came in very late at night/early morning so we worked it out in advance that the security guard would have our key.  He was very nice, and walked us to our room with a flashlight where we all promptly passed out.  We had trouble making our reservations through hotels.com so we had to pay for our kids stay with us the next morning, and also worked this out prior to arrival. They said it would be $20 extra, which was fair.  Unfortunately when it came time to settle up, they decided our kids were adults and wanted to charge $50.  The room was $53 and if we were going to pay that much, we would have just gotten two rooms.  I had to pitch a mini-fit and point out our daughter was only 13, so definitely not an adult, and they agreed to the previously agreed upon rate.  The room was clean and the food was good.  The beach was pretty.  We were only there for 9 hours total.  We really appreciate them letting us in at 1AM!
