We had a pleasant stay in July 2023! The service was great and we had a great view from the balcony/veranda (top room). Rooms were clean (w. Refrigerator!), and nice breakfast. Only 20 min to La Fortuna and 15 min to volcan trail parts.

The location with a beautiful view of the volcano, close to a lot of activities, beautiful large, very clean bedroom, comfortable bedroom, good breakfast, private parking, good wifi, very welcome.

Beware of the room next to the owner’s office (and front dining room)!  Its the image shown in the booking.com profile. Noisy (next to office, so you hear all conversations between guests and the owner, plus her dog barking outside the room window, and phone ringing). Lighting in the room did not allow reading of books - you’d have to use a torch. The only positive is that the room was clean.

I acknowledge that other rooms may be much better (I have read sone of the other reviews), even very pleasant and spacious, but my room was unacceptable. I don’t think it should be rented out given its location. You have been warned.

I’m sorry I can’t be more positive - perhaps my standards are too high.

Cabinas Los Tucanes was a great place to stay in the charming village of El Castillo, close to Arenal Volcano. We had a spacious upstairs room with a spectacular view of the lake and volcano. The high-ceiling room  was bright and  spotlessly clean, spacious and had a nice deck. It came equipped with a coffee maker and small refrigerator, and the beds were very comfortable. The owner Fanny served us  a delicious breakfast and went  out of her way to be helpful in many ways.

Very Nice Place to Stay in a Charming Village

Great location, very clean, friendly hosts, great views of Vulcano Arenal, a little away from the hustle and bustle, plenty of opportunities for tours and experiences, some restaurants nearby... highly recommended!

That's perfect.

Nice room with a funny "kitchen" made like a bathroom. It was clean and the bathroom was OK but without basin (you have to go to the kitchen for cleaning hands or teeth). As there is no breakfast included, we prepared it ourselves with the coffee maker and some stuff purchased at the local supermarket. The way to the lake is not very long and can be easily done walking. There is also an "Ecozoo" almost in front of the room. Good place for a short stay.

Well located, close to the lake and the volcanos

We came across this cabin on the afternoon of November 29th without booking anything and I must say that the owner welcomed us with great courtesy and kindness. The spacious room like few others and with excellent amenities, including a small kitchen corner, allowed us to manage our breakfast directly on site without having to do it outside.

Loved our room here – the first time we’ve had a fridge on our travels in Nicaragua & Costa Rica! – and the coffee machine and cups, plates, etc were a really nice touch. 

The room was spotlessly clean and the location is great for visiting Volcán Arenal, the Laguna, local hot springs and the Arenal Observatory Lodge trails.

Cosy room with great facilities

If you have a vehicle (preferably a 4x4), do not hesitate to go to El Castillo to escape the tourist disasters of La Fortuna. This quiet village is adorable and the stop in Los Tucanes is no less. The reception, although simple, is friendly. We were 2 and stayed in the four-bedroom room that has a beautiful perso space and a balcony overlooking the volcano (at least when there is no fog....). Small kitchen space. It feels really good. And many walks are very close!

We stayed one night and were able to sleep well and have breakfast what we had bought ourselves.The setting is very nice and it is by the sandy lake.There are many activities to do.Everything was very clean.In our cabin seated 4 people comfortably but we were only 2 so it wasn't so cheap.
