We stayed for four nights in July at La Maison du Lao Shay in Dali. The hostel was a bit difficult to find if you catch the number 8 bus from Xia Guan. A better option is to catch the bus to the Three Pagodas and get off at the vegetable market, which is much less walking. The room was spotlessly clean with a lovely bathroom. There was a living area downstairs as well as a large outdoor courtyard. Even though it is a youth hostel it is suitable for all ages, but the staircase, high step up into the bathroom and deep bath may be problematic for some travelers.
