We stayed here a couple of years ago and I do plan to return. The Inn has been refurbished to a very high standard. The atmosphere was quiet and restful with beautiful mountain views fro the verandah. We were warmly welcomed and provided with clean rooms all tastefully and comfortably furnished. I recommended this place to my son for his honeymoon !

My girlfriend and I stayed here for 2 nights and wished we had more time here. The beds were comfortable and showers were sufficient with 24 hr hot water. The room itself had a comfortable feel with the wooden interior. The terrace on the 3rd floor had a view of the mountains and really relaxing. The staff was really friendly and we just loved their dog Dian Dian. For 130rmb a night, it was a great value. 

A jewel of a courtyard guesthouse away from the hustle and bustle of Dali. Quiet back street but only a few minutes walk from the center of the old city. The courtyard is an oasis of quiet, decorated with wonderful antiques. We stayed on the third flor and had a view of the mountains that rise to the west of Dali. Rooms are small but well furnished, good showers with 24 hr hot water. The owner is a wonderful hostess and will make tour, bus arrangements. This place is special and the price very reasonable.

I will go back to this comfortable, attractive home.

The Moonshine Inn is located in a quieter area of Dali, down a small alley way past a well.  The location is actually a great asset because the centre of Dali can become very crowded and noisy with tourist groups.  It does mean you need to walk about 15 minutes to get to where the action and most of the bars/restaurants are.
The top floor of the Inn (3rd floor) has a shared terrace from which you can watch the sunset over the hills.  The room itself was small with no separation (i.e. privacy) from the bathroom/toilet! Bed was comfortable and they made up the room every day which was good service considering the price.   The shower wasn't great - very little water pressure and swung between boiling hot and freezing cold.
The hotel management was conspicuously absent and not very forthcoming for help with regards to Dali.   If you are a first time visitor, perhaps it is better to stay in a guesthouse more targeted towards travelers.  The Moonshine Inn has very little information for foreign visitors (i.e. if you don't speak Chinese).

A few days in Dali

We stayed there in May 2012 in the top floor double room. These were 2 horrible nights. It was almost impossible to sleep because of the noise : the owner has a collection of birds that still sing at night. At 4 am the roaster awakes the whole neighbourhood. The room does not have proper curtains... You can easely be seen from outside with the lights on. There is also no intimacy : there is no proper bathroom : the toilet is next to the bed. It is just awful. It is also supposed to be a B&B but there is no possibility to have a breakfast. we paid 25 euros the room which is still a high price for the region.
