We stayed here before catching the train to Lhasa. As hotels go I think it had seen better days as it is in what I would call it's "fading glory". Nonetheless we would recommend it and enjoyed our brief stay in Xining. My wife and I played a game called "spot the european" scores nil each. The locals, apart from hotel staff, were intrigued by us which led to some very funny moments. By the by there is a brilliant young male busker who sings outside one of the supermarkets not far from the hotel.
