Really reasonable, good location and comfy clean rooms. It’s a small island and the bars and shopping is on the west side of the island. 

Plenty of Ali bikes and taxis anywhere we’re only ¥15 to 30. 

Friendly staff and chilled vibes.

We stayed there over new years and a few days later and sure enough we were not disappointed. 

Sonia from reception was extremely helpful and gifted little one with baby friendly product.

Nothing fancy here, but the beds and pillows are comfortable and the rooms clean. It’s a good location, Xiamen is pretty easy to get around and the sites spread out, so this spot works. Price was high when we stayed during Chinese New Year. Breakfast was fine but the same items every day. 

Stayed 2 nights in the standard king room. Room is of decent size and furnishing is fairly new. However there is no fridge. Our rooms had locking and toilet bowl choking issues but were resolved quickly. Breakfast though minimalistic is sufficient. Hotel crew especially the lady manager who speaks fluent English is very hospitable and helpful.
Hotel has a few Chinese restaurants and a minimart nearby. It is about 10-15min taxi ride to Zhongshan walking street which costs only 12rmb. 
Overall is a pleasant stay.

I stayed four nights at the Holiday Inn City Center which has recently opened, a month ago. The hotel is well located, walking distance to Yundang Lake and famous road, Cruise terminal, around 10 minutes by car to Zhongshan road and 20 minutes to the airport. Hotel is modern with large comfy room, walk in shower, amenities, etc...

Attention, no laundry service if long stay!

Standard Holiday Inn Experience

Good price and location.

When arrived at hotel,  no one spoke english; they could not find our  reservation for 20 min; after they find it, they demanded full
payment  up front! Once i got to the room it was filthy: the desk had stains, floor had missing wooden tiles, it almost cut my toe! Fingerprints all over the washroom silver door frame! Bad smell in lobby! Does not measure up to holiday inn or ihg standards!

Dirty hotel.  poor maintenance

As a big fan and user of Holiday Inn and the IHG group it is a shame to have to write such a poor review on such a usually excellent chain. 

Checkin took 30 minutes. A couple were arguing at the reception and only after 10 minutes did the receptionist turn to the queue and acknowledge us. I asked her if she was the only one working today when she then realized to call for a second receptionist. 

He turned up and 20 minutes later we had our keys. He struggled to find my visa page and even asked if the visa that expired in 2017 was the correct one. 

Room number 8406.....yet the elevator doesn’t have a floor 8. ‘How is this’ I hear you ask. The receptionist forgot to tell me it’s actually floor 4, something that makes perfect sense. He also forgot to tell us the WiFi password and about breakfast (but I’ll discuss that later).

As always the rooms are good, the beds are magnificent and the bathroom is superb. This is also the first hotel I’ve been at where I asked for my bed sheets and towels not be be changed and the cleaner followed this, folding up the used towels instead. However, I was a bit shocked to see cobwebs over the window which, with a fear of spiders isn’t something I was overly happy about (see photo).

Breakfast, which I mentioned before, was, at best, 2 out of 10. Rice crispies and frosties with warm milk? Sausages and a bacon equivalent,both served cold, or a host of vegetables. Yes, I know it’s China (I lived there for 9 years) but even by China standards this was poor. At least it was a good coffee machine. 

Location wise it was superb and at ¥500 a night the price is good but it needs a serious upgrade to match the level of another holiday inn. 

FYI I stayed in the holiday inn express in Bangkok last month and it was superb (before anyone says it’s a holiday inn express not a holiday inn)
