Dongfang Hotel

We spent three nights at this hotel attending a reunion. Like many Chinese hotels, there is an impressive and very spacious lobby. Check in was smooth since we had an interpreter with us. Passports are essential in staying at any hotel in China. English is limited so be prepared for sign language. This is a very large hotel with several banquet rooms and an assortment of bars and restaurants. It is a confusing layout and it takes a while to find your way with an A and a B building. The room was great with a king size bed, comfortable chairs and a shower that is difficult to manage. Toilet paper is a premium in many hotels in the interior since tourists take toilet paper rolls for use in their travels. many public rest rooms have no paper so a roll from the hotel is always handy Breakfast is an interesting combination of Western and Chinese food. A chef cooks omelettes or fried/scrambled eggs. Coffee is a problem if there is a large group since a coffee machine dispenses single cups and often seems to run into problems. The hotel is close to the Kite museum in Weifang and to the Weihsien Internment Camp Park and museum both of which are well worth visiting. There is an interesting process for ordering room service. Orders are placed through the front desk. A woman appears very shortly with a menu. You make the order and pay her in cash and the food is delivered. If you need laundry or dry cleaning, the process is very similar except payment is made when the garments are returned.
