The Zhuozheng Bieyuan Hotel is located a short stroll from the canal district, the Humble Administrator's Garden, and the Suzhou Museum, in the heart of old Suzhou. The rooms are snug, albeit clean and perfectly acceptable, the service is bare bones. My wife and I were the only foreign guests and our lack of Mandarin and the staff's almost total absence of English made communication a challenge. But it's definitely the place to stay to explore the old city.
