Yuanse Inn

We had a great time at Yuanse after being recommended by some friends. The location is convenient and only a 10 minute walk from Danxia's front gate and ticketbooth, making it easy to get back after a long day of hiking. They have a great cafe on the bottom floor with good coffee, snacks, and breakfasts as well as a restaurant next door that served mostly Chinese food though we did see some people eating a steak. Almost nothing here is in English with the exception of about 10 items on the cafe menu, so be prepared to pantomime or draw what you want or use an app to translate. The staff's English ability is pretty low as well, but we were able to use WeChat to communicate without too much hassle. Shoutout to the staff also, they were always smiling and willing to help even despite our limited Chinese and one of them even drove us to the bus stop on the day we left! The room was great (though there was only 1 window and that was in the bathroom) and was cleaned daily and replaced with fresh towels and teas. Bed was classic Chinese and quite hard but not terrible compared to others we've slept on. Bathroom was modern and had a large shower, western toilet, and big mirror. Overall a great experience and I'd recommend Yuanse to anyone looking to visit Danxia. *To get there we took a taxi from the train/bus station in Shaoguan and it was 125RMB with the meter, though we heard people have been quoted 150-180 with no meter*
