Mount Emei Shanshen Hotel

We got this place through Agoda for $21, and stayed two more nights for 128RMB. I love using agoda or trip advisor because it saves you trying to haggle if you don't know the language. Rack rates at this place were 480rmb. Amazing water pressure, lovely rooms (4th floor is nicer) and they held on to our bags for two days for free while we hiked the mountain. One drawback is there is no sign in English on the hotel. It has red lanterns hanging, it is on one of the four little roads across from the university and is across from "meng ba la hotel. Every piece of food we had in the tourist area was revolting (shocking in China I know) and expensive. If you stay here go right out of the hotel then right on the main drag, walk 2-3 blocks past the gate that marks the entrance into the tourist town and make a left. You will walk the length of the university (5-10min?) and then come to the local resteraunts and fruit vendors where all the college kids eat. Oh my god! Best smoked duck I've ever had (20 RMB got me half a duck chopped up) tasted like bacon. We also ate at one of the BBQ places (in between the back pack shop and milk tea place) it was incredible, we got lotus, tofu, two kinds of sausage, long beans and bits of pork all for 24rmb and it was AMAZING. Leave the tourist area, eat with the locals. Yum. There are also stores where you can get dried tofu and beef jerky for your treck for 1/2 the price of the stores in the tourist town.
