Yangzhou Centre & Residence

We stayed in late April 2018 and I am wondering why there is such a difference between the grand buildings and the food service. Originally it was the home of a merchant, and today it is a hotel. But two things that every traveller rank high on their list are electrical safety and food. It would not be hard to check the labels on switches - on lights beside the bed, for bathrooms etc - these need to be accurate. Other wise its just so annoying. My local Chinese friends wee not impressed with any of the food served - meals or breakfast. I am Australian. I have been a backpacker and a have eaten at some very low cost establishments. But this was inexplicably horrible. Stay here, but do not eat here. The street outside has the expected touristy things aimed at locals. Candy floss, tea and even duck. Keep walking, pop down a back alley and find less of a mass production. We left the tourist street and found several good restaurants. Also, I walked a couple of km ( fascinated by the people enjoying the fair like atmosphere), and found a great massage place. They were upset that I wasn't a local (no future business, I guess). But with my zero Chinese, these happy friendly people managed to work the kinks out of my travel weary back. Better than a physio.
