Friendship Palace

i stayed for two weeks and found friendship within one. The walls are very old. I feel as though the friendship offered here is of mediocre quality. i learned that food is more valuable than friendship. you can do without friendship. you cannot do without food. generally overpopulated with friends. I tried to sing the friends theme song in the lobby, but was escorted out of the building.

Nice and comfortable.  The main complaint was the horrible sewer smell at all hours of the day and night!  Cozy bar and brightly lit tea room very nice for relaxing!  Fairly centrally located, although I think Harbin is very spread out!  Breakfast was included, but lots of eating places near the hotel!

We just returned from a trip to Harbin and we reserved a room via Ctrip at this hotel in the VIP building.  My room reminds me of my college day dorm room both size and amenities.  I got a desk with a chair, a TV on a stand, a tiny closet, a small bed and a small bathroom.  Although it was not big, it was clean and comfortable for one person.  You cannot beat the location as I was a 5 minute walk from the downtown Central Street and the Song Hua River where a lot of activities take place.  We were also a 20 minute walk from the St. Sophia Church and Russian town.  However, do not expect much help from the hotel staff if you do not speak Mandarin as they do not understand nor speak English at all.  For the price during this peak season during the Ice Festival, I would say it's a good value.  However, at other times of the year, opt to stay at the Other Building (Ying Bin Building) as the rooms are much larger and newer.

Friendship was of average quality, not great. i have experienced better friendship elsewhere.

Dorm Size Room But Conveniently Located

Friendship Palace hotel is a really nice hotel - the rooms are nice (I think they may have been newly renovated) and its fairly central just a couple blocks from Central Street. Unfortunately the service is horrible. They won't even call a taxi for you (& this was for a 5:30am departure), they also don't try very hard to help you - our Chinese is pretty broken and they made 0 effort to either speak slower or try to use their broken English they have to help us.

Nice hotel but don't expect much from the service 

Honestly I rarely leave reviews, but in this case I was pretty disappointed with this property. My wife and I booked the cheaper room through Ctrip, it cost about 80usd a night. We went for the first few days of the ice festival. I input dates in march here on trip advisor once by accident and noticed it gets to 500usd a night! NO WAY! 
This hotel is billed as a 4 star hotel, with breakfast, pool, gym, english speaking staff, etc. We had trouble just checking in as the staff spoke zero English and our Chinese isn't great, but shouldn't it be obvious that a couple of people holding luggage and giving you their passports are checking in? I guess not. Once we got to the room we noticed a funk, but could never determine where it was coming from. When I enquired where the gym and pool were, because I couldn't find it on a hotel map/information directory, the assistant manager said there wasn't one. So I donned my running shoes and took a workout going up and down side stairwells where I noticed a lot of tattered carpet and chipped/cracked paint as well as a number of staff who appeared to be hiding from duty and just chatting in a corner. Wifi is available, but it takes about 5 minutes for a page to load, don't expect to do any work here. The breakfast served is a large spread, but very Chinese so just be aware. They did have some nice fruit and bread options. 
Also on the plus side, this hotel is directly across from the ice festival and you can walk the 15 minutes it takes straight across the frozen river to get there, but thats about it. 4 stars, maybe it provincial China, but not by international standards, maybe 2.
