HanTing Hotel (Harbin Dongda Zhijie Hongbo Plaza)

I loved this place! The room was cozy and warm. It was small, but that's what you'd expect with the cost in mind. I was able to book late at night when another place turned us down even though we had reservations.

In my opinion, this is the best location for those who like shopping. The best shopping malls are less than 50 mt away. The metro and underground shopping city is right underneath. Front desks staffs are very helpful. They are doing some upgrading works at the moment. Besides the normal heater in the room, there is also an air conditional unit that can blow hot air. I felt so protected in Harbin where the outside temperature can be rather harsh. 

The wifi is free but to connect it, you need a local telephone number for clarity and efficiency. Otherwise you have to make do with the weak signal. The room is rather small. The window curtain certainly needs a washing. During the 7 days I stayed, twice the boiler broke down but they managed to fix it within a few hours.

Warm, Clean and Cheap

My boyfriend and I went to Harbin around Chinese New Year. Maybe it was due to the holiday season, all the hotels in Harbin were very expensive. A Holiday Inn was over $200/night. I like to try and find the gem whenever I travel, so I thought I did when I found this place on TA. The price was definitely right and the one English review was positive. I even sent the location to some family members in Harbin, they told me it was in a very central part of town. 
We arrived very late one night in Feb. The front desk told us they only had one of the smaller rooms available. We were so tired we didn't really care the size of the room. When we arrived at the actual room, we were so disappointed, maybe even slightly afraid. Even my Chinese family members couldn't believe how poor the room was. Size aside, it looked and felt like a hotel room in some charge by the hour hotel, at least how I would imagine those places. The "bathroom" was a step up from the room facing the door, there was barely a sink and a broken "counter". All the towels had holes in them, not burns, but actual holes from too much use. Every corner we looked had either scuffs, holes or hardwood floor that stopped an inch away from the wall, so you just saw dirt under the wooden planks. There was no view, I think just another building next door. My Chinese cousin took the initiative and demanded a different room for us. The new room (the room they "didn't have" when we checked in) was better by maybe 20%. It was bigger, had an actual bathroom area, and slightly newer towels. It looked more like the pictures I saw online. I still didn't linger on the the corner or details of the room, but it was tolerable. The TV is probably from the 1960s, we never bothered to turn it on. The room itself was at the end of a hallway, which had maybe one working ceiling light. Right across the hall from our door was a door that led to the outside "roof" area, I think they took the trash out that way. There was dirty trash drag marks all over the doorway into the hallway. Needless to say, we didn't feel relaxed or that safe. We ended up spending most of our down time in the coffee shop next door and only slept and showered in our room. Oh the lobby always had random people sitting or sleeping in it. They didn't look like guests, so that was odd. 
My recommendation is to look elsewhere. Its worth it to spend a little more and feel clean and comfortable after a long day sightseeing. If you don't really care about that, then this place might be right for you.
