Guijin Hotel

This hotel is a class act in the traditional hotel kind of way. It is imposing, solid, traditional, very comfortable, and it works well (except for wifi). Breakfast is amazing. Coffee shop - peculiar. Massage spa good. It even has real shoe shine! Stepping into the marbled lobby is a respite from the modern hotels’ sometimes failed attempt at grandeur: this hotel is impressive when you walk in. I would like to see more seats in the lobby, such a grand hall should be a place to relax and watch. The rooms are very traditional – wood, panelling, marble, and very comfortable (if you like a hard bed – which I do). Go out of the room and let them do the turn down service in your absence – you will be surprised on your return, a sheer silk dividing curtain between the lobby and the room will have been drawn (and you did not notice it before) and the whole room as a warm cosy feel to it. Breakfast can only be described as splendid – it is Chinese (forget the “Western” breakfast) and you can sample an almost infinite number of combinations of food that will be delicious and exciting to the non Chinese pallet. Visit the coffee shop; it is a picture of carved wood and tradition. Always seemed to be empty, but when I went the service was truly awesome – and I only had a cappuccino! I took a foot massage and traditional Chinese massage in a very, very well appointed spa for a bargain price. This is the first hotel for a very long time where I could leave my shoes outside the door and have them cleaned .. is that tradition or not.. a step back in time. Language barrier – almost no body speaks English – but they make up for it in being incredibly friendly – Reception and the phone conversations with Guest services has very passable English. This is a Class Act in Nanning and should not be missed
