Dunhuang Sha Zhou Yi International Youth Hostel

Admittedly I didn't actually sleep here, because I went on the overnight camel tour organised by the hostel, but it was a cheap way to ensure my luggage was safe and gave me a base to rest after the tour. The rooms are spotless and cleaned regularly, as are the showers. The staff are friendly, and really helpful organising everything and giving you tips on how to do things. The shower I had was cold, but it was after the camel tour and i assume the hot water had run out, so no biggie! The overnight camel tour I think is the best thing I have ever done. You go out into the desert in the evening, watch the sunset over the dunes, sledge back down to your dinner cooked on an open fire, then sleep in a tent before being woken up to watch the sunset. Through the hostel was by far the cheapest option I could find, but the saddles are more "traditional" than the more expensive tours, so expect saddle rub!
