Chengdu 20&30 Hostel

In recent years we have been gravitating towards new hostels/homestays set up by young eager entrepreneurs in the cities we visit. Time and again we found that these give exceptionally good value. We have always felt energized by the enthusiasm and the unfailing dedication they showed in accommodating our needs. And the bar seems to be raised higher each time. Such is the case with 2030 Hostel. Operational since August last year the hostel run by Leo and Filippo has garnered incredibly high reviews on booking.com from Day 1. Naturally we had to check it out on our recent trip to Chengdu. And boy, were we impressed. Apart from the usual non-negotiables like superb location, cleanliness and complimentary wifi, this place has a lot going for it. First off is the sense of home coming. The 2 hosts really went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. Just let them know what you require and they would surely try their best to see it done. In the end it is these little touches that matter. This place also seems to attract a friendly community. There is a strong social interaction among the guests and no one needs to be alone unless they desire it. When we were there we saw an interesting mix of local and foreign guests enjoying an evening meal together with the duo. Feeling adventurous? They have prepared a map of the location of the more interesting food stalls in the surrounding area. We tried a few of their recommendations and were delighted with the results. Don’t fret if you have questions regarding your trip to Chengdu and beyond. They graciously allowed us to pick their brains before we made our way to Leshan and EMeishan. Filippo even shared lots of helpful advice for our upcoming trip to Cinque Terre as he had previously studied in Italy. Incidentally for a fail-proof way to get to 2030 for the first-timer: At the Qianfeng metro station get out from Exit D and turn right. Walk about 700m till you reach a passenger foot bridge. After crossing this bridge you will immediately face the security barrier to this apartment. Go past security and turn left to enter the first door of the first apartment block. Ride the elevator to Level 5, turn right and follow the sign to Room 503. The North Bus Station is right across the road and local buses ply this route. The stop for the famous bus no. 154 is literally mere metres away. For the uninitiated this bus stops at specific stations along the way for passengers to alight and to try various popular Chengdu food. 2030 is hugely popular and rooms are booked out quickly. However don’t just take my word for it. Stay a night and as they say, feel the difference!
