Hostal Los Acacios

Looking for a hotel in Viña del Mar at New Year's that wouldn't require support from my bank's loans officer was a bit dispiriting. Finally we just picked something we could afford with the thought that we wouldn't be in the room much anyway. Our idea was to spend as much time at the beach as possible, soaking up the sun and swimming during the day and then watching the crowds and fireworks during the evening and night. Well, Los Acacios turned out to be a gem and exceeded our expectations. A former private residence it has a number of rooms available, some sharing washrooms, but ours at least having a private bathroom, a view out to the outdoor pool and yard, and a fireplace (definitely not required in summer, but pleasing all the same). The old wood floors, plenty of windows, large bathroom and funky feeling fueled our delight. The staff were pleasant, helpful and flexible in extending our check-out and continental breakfast times after a late, late night enjoying the fireworks (and then walking 'home').
