22 reviewsPerhaps better described as a bed and breakfast rather than a hostel, Hostal Lago de Plata offers very spacious, comfortable rooms with plenty of character including grand high ceilings. The hosts of this lovely place go above and beyond to accommodate their guests by providing breakfast including fresh bread and home made jam every day. Eggs and fruit were also on offer most mornings. A couple of times we even got given a slice of cake from the hosts' adorable little boy whose birthday it had been. While we were there it was a rather quiet period, and breakfast ran from 7am to 11am (perfect for late risers). Our kind hosts even offered to rustle up dinner for us if we happened to be around at about 6pm. By then we had already adjusted to eating much later (thanks to some time spent in Buenos Aires), but had we still been on British time we would definitely have taken them up on their offer. Fresh towels were also provided every day. The hostel is very well located about five minutes' walk from Cumming subway station and a short walk from plenty of places to eat and drink so it is an ideal base from which to explore the wonderful things the area has to offer. My boyfriend and I researched a lot of places before we booked here and we are so glad we did. While it seems to be lacking in as many reviews as you would expect something this good to have, don't let that put you off. It's clean, homely and incredibly welcoming.

Based on local tax laws, Chilean citizens (and foreigners staying more than 59 days in Chile) must pay an additional fee of 19%. Please note that for tax exemption foreign travellers must pay in US dollars and have to present the migration card they are given when they arrive to the country. Foreign business travellers, who require a printed invoice, will also be charged the additional 19% regardless of the length of their stay in Chile.
