Huilo Huilo Montaña Magica

I found this hotel on National Geographic's website. I thought we would never be able to afford it, but since it was only Spring there we got an excellent rate. What I didn't realize is that there are actually several hotels on the property. We stayed in Nostafagamus, which was amazing. I think it might be the only one with a balcony. We looked out onto the volcano, which glowed at night, it was beautiful. The room was large, spotless and beautiful. The staff was amazing. They were all extremely helpful and friendly. There are several staff members that speak English and other languages.
The restaurant was superb. It is a little pricey, but definitely worth it. The breakfast buffet in the morning was like nothing I've ever seen. It's like 4 buffet tables; cereal with milk or yogurt, eggs, bacon, sausage, 10 different kinds of bread, tons of cheese choices, croissants, tarts, sweet bread, fruit, cakes. You name it!
We also went to the spa while we were there. The pool is nice, if you want to lounge around indoors. We each got a full body massage and it was excellent. Well-trained and lovely massage therapists.
Also, the actual preserve that surrounds the hotel is incredible. They have made all of the "hikes" extremely accessible and easy. We saw about 4 waterfalls in the span of an hour. The deer and wild boar preserve is definitely worth seeing. 
All in all, it was a magical and relaxing experience. I would highly recommend it.

WOW. What an experience we had here! I'd seen this hotel online before and it's what enticed me to come. It was genuinely so beautiful, inside and out. Breakfast buffet was delicious - lots and lots of variety, you'll want a plate full of everything to try (honey dripping from a honeycomb was a real treat!). We highly enjoyed the spa and other facilities. We trekked up to Huilo Huilo waterfall and it was amazing, as well as white water rafting. Absolutely amazing! The service was fantastic as well - loved the turning down of our bedroom at night, as well as the kind staff.

Definitely, one of the best hotels I have ever been in my life! If you have ever dreamed of treehouse in your childhood, this is a real "dream come true".Highly recommended for anyone!Swimming pool was a special attraction for me and my 2 year old son!You may do perfect hiking and see waterfall and other wonders of Huilo Huilo nature reserve. Boat trips are also available from the port not far from the hotel.

The lodge is very nice and MOST of the workers there know what is going on and can answer or help you find the answer to questions you might have. I am disappointed that there was not water or tea in the rooms and no way to have hot water. 

Nice buildings, nice meals possible, nice walks possible too, nice people to help. 
Room pleasant but bad noise isolation between rooms and people talking in the stairs event when the "shsht" paper is on the door. Important noise outside with the generators for electricity I suppose which make it difficult to rest in the room in the day and up to 22.00. Noise from the circulation on the road. 

To visit the reserve and to witness the creativity and care with which the hotel was designed and built is well worth the trip and is an amazing experience. It just blends in with the forest. 
Breakfast is above average and was included in our package but there aren’t many options for the other meals. It’s either the bar or a slightly pricey dinner in the restaurant. Choosing an alternative restaurant in one of the two nearby small towns (for which you need a car) looked like a lottery. Facilities are shared with the Notofagus hotel. 
Our room in the Montaña Mágica lodge was tiny and reached by a spiral staircase but I guess you have to make allowances for the quirky design of the building. What we did find surprising and annoying was the impossibility of turning down the room heating at night. Result; not a great night’s sleep. 
English is not widely spoken in the hotel but the staff take the trouble to find one of their colleagues to do so when necessary.

Most Amazing Hotel We've Ever Stayed In!!

It is extremely overrated and very expensive for the poor comfort and the somehow very basic installations it offers. We spent three days there and despite our requests had no warm water. We were told that they would send "maintenance", obviously "maintenance" never arrived, so: shower with cold water in winter for 812 US... Nevertheless, the food was pretty good and the service (in the restaurant!) was excellent. But I would definitely not recommend the place.

Definitely NOT a Must-See

Nice hotel, however we think it's overrated. The hotel doesn't worth the price.
The room didn't have soap, which is the basic for such kind of hotel. No hair towel.
In addition to that, the hot tubes were no working, same with the outside swimming pool.
Good breakfast though.
