I went to work, and I can comment on the following: Location, regular, depending on where you are and where you move. Installations: They look decent, at least the ones that are common Breakfast: Reduced, not very contundent. (2 slices of sliced bread) access to cookies, access to jam (small pocket), access to pork ham. Tea or coffee unlimited. The room is not very clean, the bathroom is not, in fact, daily oily. Rest, regular, the bed is something old and does not allow good sleep.

Excellent hostel, excellent location, a couple of blocks from downtown, Parque Japonés, Avda. Francisco de Aguirre, Plaza de armas, Supermercados, etc. The spacious apartments, well maintained common areas and the cleanliness of the rooms.

The hostel is very cozy, very well located and noisy. The common areas are very well maintained, the dining room is spacious and with everything you need for a rich breakfast. It has tea, coffee, milk, bread, accompaniments. It also has a very well-equipped kitchen, all functioning well and everything clean if you want to prepare something. I booked the basic room because my stay was only 2 nights, it has just what it takes to rest, it met my expectations. The bed is very comfortable, in good condition, with cable TV, private bathroom, veiler, furniture, hanger, enough plugs, adequate ventilation. The shower with very good water pressure and staff functioning well.

A very good stay.

I went and saw the rented room and began to notice the dirt mixed with the dirt used in the bathroom, the hideous bathroom, the cleaners and I was charged for the unwillingness and the staff is extremely ordinary and dirty, the silver again, and they were beaten with beatings never to return to this place again.

It is a quiet place to relax located in the center of the city of la Serena, with access to the hospital, banks, recreation areas, etc. It also has good rooms, a good breakfast and a very good service.

Good care

Reception staff, in general, attentive but distant. Good shared kitchen but the community dining room (as opposed to breakfast) small and poorly located. As in other establishments in Chile, they do not discount VAT to foreigners. () Although we pay the remaining 50% in the entrance street, depending on the hours, it is difficult to stop a moment to unload luggage.

Good location, close to the historic center.

We did not expect too much from La Serena as it is not a big hub for tourism, but Balmaceda was one of the nicest hostels of our 4 month trip across south america! more like a hotel than a hostel. The staff was all very friendly and welcoming.

Wonderful surprise!

I really wanted to write a good review about this place and on a whole it was a good place to stay (especially in a town where there is nothing to do!) 

The young man on reception was really helpful and spoke excellent English! The room was nice and had a TV with its own bathroom. The wifi was excellent which was a bonus! The kitchen and breakfast area was also really nice and the breakfast was decent. 

...However, for most travellers La Serena is just a stop off point on the way up North! Therefore, it is likely a lot of people will be waiting around in the day to get a night bus. We thought, as is the case in most hostels, we would be allowed to leave our bags there while we waited for our bus. After trying to kill time as best we could, we stopped at the hostel to quickly use the bathroom at 5pm.The young man on reception then came to ask us if it was our bags in reception as the manager said we must take them immediately! We explained our bus was not till 9 and could we keep them there a little longer but the manager said we had to take them straight away! The young man was very apologetic and I think he could see his manager was being unreasonable. I really don't see what difference it would of made to the manager for our bags to be there a little longer or at least till reception closed! Perhaps he could have spoke to us himself instead of getting the receptionist to do it for him!

Had a beautiful stay here. 
Although currently being renovated this didn't deter our stay. Lovely rooms and very friendly and attentive staff.
Close to the central shopping and entertain area and only a couple of blocks from the bus terminal.
Would stay here again.

Wonderful

The facade is very nice but this hotel is very nice. Room and bathrooms very clean. Bedroom comfortable. Super fast Wifi (optical fiber, about 5 Mbps up and 30 Mbps down). Small kitchen available (no four). Small lunch (bread, butter, jam, cheese, juice (powder), yogurt, hot drinks). 10 minutes walk from the bus station and Plaza de Armas (supermarket 5 minutes away). The facade is a remarkable but this hotel is very nice and comfortable. Bedroom and bathroom very clean. Comfortable bed. High speed internet (about 5 Mbps up and 30 Mbps down). Small kitchen (no walk).
