I have been to the lodge multiple times in the last ten years w a group of fisherman and the lodge has always gone above and beyond to exceed our expectations. They really have everything you could want in a Patagonia adventure - first class fishing, accommodations, food, and drink. We will continue to come back!!!

I had the best fishing experience of my life at the Coyhaique River Lodge, far exceeded anything I expected. Everyone that worked there went out of their way to make me feel welcome and the three guides I had were the best, Matt, Alejandro, and Walter, I can't say enough good things about them. The countryside is beautiful and at times it was hard to keep my mind on the fishing just looking at the countryside as we drifted along the Rio Simpson or any other place we happen to be. Finally I must say a special thanks to Gaston, the owner of the lodge who helped me find a dentist on short notice on my very last day to take care of a painful tooth before I left to head home. That is what I call going service.

Having fly fished for over 30 years and having stayed at great lodges all over North America and beyond, I must highly recommend Coyhaique River Lodge. After receiving a pitch on Cinco Rios Lodge, I did quite a bit of research and was able to find multiple people who had stayed at both. These references pointed me to Coyhaique River Lodge and they did not steer me wrong.

Built and run by former fly fishing guides, Gaston and Claudio Urrejola, these brothers obviously know what works and what doesn’t for avid fly fishermen.

The Lodge – The Lodge is beautiful. I wondered at first if it was brand new as it certainly looked and felt as such. The Great Room sports a full floor to roof alpine window displaying one of the most beautiful views in Chile. When you return after your day of fishing, drinks and hors d’voeuvres wait for you which are first class.
Rooms – The Lodge has two first floor wings off the Great Room, each holding two guests. The rooms are very large and have a wall to wall window displaying the same incredible view as the Great Room. The design is obviously the result of the former fly fishermen who built it. The beds are separated at opposite ends of the rooms with the heads at opposite walls. Each guest has a whole floor to ceiling set of shelfs about 5 feet wide. You can unpack all of your gear and have plenty of room. You’ll never have to dig through your bags. Each also has a writing desk and chair, as well as a closet for those items you wish to hang up. The bathroom is elegantly tiled and looks and feels like an expensive hotel. Outside each room door is a nice wader rack for drying your waders overnight. (The guides will take your boots at the end of each day, clean them, and have them ready for you the next morning).
Food – The food is stellar and plated like gourmet entrees by a gourmet chef. You won’t go hungry. The breakfast every morning is on a breakfast bar and includes everything you would want including eggs, bacon, pancakes, assorted cheeses, fruits and the lighter fare for those that prefer that. In the afternoons and evening, If you are a drinker, Julio is there when you need him at any time to make you your favorite drink. If you enjoy wine, you will enjoy an unlimited supply of various Chilean wines.
The Guides, Equipment and Fishing – The guides are first class as is your transportation in 4 wheel drive, 4 door pickups which are always clean. There is so much water around Coyhaique most days you won’t even see another soul. They will take you wherever the best spots are considering the time of year or the weather. Although you will catch many large rainbows, I hope you like Brown trout !! I so enjoyed catching so many brownies, many of which are huge.

TIP- While my son and I stayed at the Lodge (my son is a professional guide in Wyoming), we hired an outside guide who was recommended to us. While it wasn’t a disaster, my next trip will include using the regular guides who work full time at the Lodge. Not only are they very professional and knowledgeable, we got great information every night from the other guests and it was clear that regular Lodge guides  know where to take you so you catch quality fish.  Net, net, use the guides at the Lodge.

Wonderful fishing lodge with terrific guides and great food. Strenuous hikes or less invigorating hikes available also for the non fishing spouse. Husband thought the guides great. 
Every evening the incomparable Julio had a Pisco Sour ready for me at 5 pm. 
Meals were served at one table and it was great fun meeting all the interesting guests. 
There was a wood fired hot tub to ease those aching muscles at the end of the day.  
Gaston the owner took me on a horseback ride on a local sheep farm. Most beautiful ride ever. 
One night we had Cordero al palo- spit roasted lamb! Delicious!
All beds were queen size. Meals and liquor were included in the rates. There was a gift shop that had garments made by local weavers. 
Bring warm clothes, even in summer we had our jackets on. 
Best part was beautiful rainbows and evening sunsets at 10 pm. Can't wait to return,

If you are looking for a diverse fishing destination in Patagonia, go to Coyhaique. If you then seek a world class fishing lodge in Coyhaique, go to this lodge. If your non-fishing partner wants to join, no problem, go to this lodge as they have a number of "adventure" events to offer. The lodge is open and spacious. Rooms are the largest that I have observed at a fishing lodge. The staff are extremely attentive and the guides are experienced and very good. Gaston, the owner, has developed a fantastic team and operation. Will definitely return.

We just returned from a stay at the Coyhaique River Lodge.  It was our first visit to Chile and we could not have been more pleased with the entire experience.  From our pick-up at the airport (Balmaceda) to our return back to the airport, Gaston and his wonderful guides and staff could not have been more accommodating, charming and genuinely carrying.  We were here to fly fish.  The area has an unlimited amount of quality water from spring creeks, small rivers, large rivers and lakes to fish.  We never came close to covering it all in a week.  The quality of the fishing is excellent.

The lodge is a beautiful facility with a stunning view from the main area and all the rooms, which were very large and had all the amenities you could want.  The meals, prepared by their Peruvian chef, can only be describe with one word, "awesome".

One gentleman, Julio, is a jack of all trades, being there from morning until night, making sure we had everything we needed.  This is one special man, and we can't wait to return next January for our second visit.  We told the hosts for our trip, from Frontiers International Travel, to put us down for the trip next year, before we even left the lodge.

All things said, I can't find one thing that I could say that these folks need to do better.  They have it down to a tee.  Long way to go, but well worth the visit.  I would describe the area as a combination of Colorado and Montana on steroids.
