A super cute little hostel - one of my favorites so far! If you book directly with them rather than through a website, the prices are a lot cheaper! (10k for a single room without bathroom rather than 16k). I would go for a room with a bathroom if I could book again, as the communal showers could be cleaner. There’s a nice kitchen, alright wifi and laundry service. On the corner of the street, there’s a very cheap little restaurant with great food! Shout out to the manager for being so nice!

Got a really good rate of CL$8,000 in August (low season) at this clean, modern, central hostal for a room with shared bathroom. Had the room to myself so it was extra private. Slow but working WiFi, good kitchen, good bathrooms, nice central courtyard to chill out. Akana is one block from the bus terminal and two from the central plaza, from where you can take a very cheap collectivo (CL$900) to Bahia Inglesa. Best location.

I found absolutely no cheap options in Bahia Inglesa -- even camping there is exorbitant at CL$15,000. My recommendation is to stay here in Caldera, which has museums and a harbour and cool fish market etc and go to Bahia Inglesa for daytrips. If anyone has dreams of opening a hostel for backpackers in this area of Chile, Bahia Inglesa would be a great place to start ...

Good value  (for the area) - paid 24,000 for twin shared bathroom.  Reserved via email.  We arrived off a night bus at 7am and were able to use room.  Is round a courtyard and not sure if we were there on a particular holiday but most nights people were chatting/listening to music till 2 or 3am, nothing though that kept us awake!  Clean, and kitchen with basic utensils.  Family seemed nice - I got food posioning and whilst my husband slept they offered to take me to hospital at 3am!
900 pesos for collectivo to Bahia Inglesa.  Its right by the pullman and turbus station, and 2 blocks from the main square.

Great option close to Bahia Inglesa

Good value for Caldera (/Bahia Inglesa)

Not a bad place and you can't argue about the price.  My room was reasonably clean but there was a slight musty smell about it.  Also I couldn't get hot water out of the shower, so the request to use it for not more than 3 minutes was easily observed.  The kitchen was dirty and I'm sure some of the food had been stored well beyond its eat-by date.

Caldera has the quirky feel of most north Chilean towns, with town beach and a lively fish market.  Try to be in the main plaza at 6 p.m. when the church clock plays a lovely tune!

Ah Kanna argue about the price

Don't get the thin walled room above the toilets.  So thin its like camping, Every dog bark & truck will wake you. The neighbours yappy dog barked from 5am   (small dogs go missing in Chile) . First light cuts through the thin curtains & first sun heats the room, the loos add a smell of urine. ( also there is nearly nowhere to put you clothes while you have a tepid shower).   They are looking to charge you 1,500 for left luggage until the 10pm night bus (the only place in Chile I found with this add on) & 1,000 for an after checkout shower. No Breakfast.   In April there is plenty of choice & other places are better value.
