Stayed for 3 nights to explore the Paul Valley. Katrin and her husband have created a wonderful haven with great staff , amazing food and very comfortable rooms. Guests are all interesting like- minded walkers who appreciate the outdoors 

Wonderful setting, food and people 

Good foods (breakfast & dinners) very friendly host Katelijne, she makes you feel at home and is very friendly in helping to arrange magnificent tours. We stayed for 5 nights and had a beautiful time at reasonable price.

Have to go there!

Coming there is an adventure, the location is amazing, the people working there and the local community super kind and helpful! Casa das Ilhas makes a perfect setting for a beautiful experience on Santo Antaõ. We had such a fantastic help from Kateline on everything from ferry trip to hiking tours!

Incredible experience

Really enjoyable stay. Rustic rooms with lovely views. Simple, hearty food, great after a walk. 

A couple of things to be aware of. No Wi-fi. Dinners are at set times and you are arranged at the table by the host. An enjoyable way to meet fellow walkers. 

The setting is in the lovely Paul valley. A perfect base for many routes directly from the house. The only challenge is a very steep walk from the road. A nice challenge if into walking but not great if you have small children or elderly relatives. 

Rustic accommodation - a great base for walkers 

Perched high on a hill overlooking a magnificent valley, it’s location is easily the best feature of this simple guest house. The rooms are basic and not all have en-suite. Take a torch and your own soap ! The dining area is rudimentary, with hard benches creating the feel of a school refectory. Breakfast is a plain, no-frills affair and dinner a communal, farmhouse-style, two-course, take-it-or-leave-it experience. If you like staying in hostels, this will probably suit you; otherwise look elsewhere.

Basic guest house saved by magnificent views.

This place up in the valley of Paul on Santo Antao is set on the slope of a mountain (or hill as you whish); it can be reached on foot (well, there is a road from the coast town up to below this hill); the 'stairs' are steep, so when she is around, a lady takes your luggage up: she will be quicker then you! We stayed here a couple of years ago and it still has the same, enthousiastic and friendly, owners and still the same 'feel'; only the palmtrees are higher. The food is good, the ownes do anything to make you feel at home and comfortable and shower you with local knowledge, if you like it or not ;) The rooms are not big, but just good and the bed and the shower are very good. Because of being up hill the air is cooler and although the sun is fierce the shade is enjoyable; sleeping is no struggle in the cooling nights when there's a fresh wind coming in. The views are stunning and from this point there are plenty of hiking trips in reach; most of the terrain is rough and steep, with lots of rubble and dust, so be warned :) That said, don't stay away of the beautiful tracks; be sure to use a walking stick and good shoes and all will be fine. It's a shame the hiking path from the Cova de Paul down is wrecked by the company that planted the electricity poles; you're welcome to be angry about that ;) This valley is the greenest one of the island, and you'll see little streams and hear water trickle down; there are ferns and colourful dragonflies.

Beautiful charming place high up the mountain slope

Our Casa das Ilhas experience was wonderful. The owners go out of their way to make sure your needs are met before you arrive, and will gladly help you make the most of your time during the stay. The rooms - while basic - are comfortable and clean. The views from the patios are the best part of the property. The community dinners are well done and a great option if you don't want to travel into town for dinner. The hike up the hill from the road to the entrance can be a challenge for some people - even with the hotel offering to carry bags - so take that into consideration when determining if this property is the best fit for you. Also, be aware that your bedroom will not have air conditioning; the mountain breezes at night may be enough to cool down the room for some people, but not for others. Otherwise, Casa das Ilhas is an excellent option as a homebase during your visit to Santo Antao.

Magical mountain views and generous hospitality

Great place !!  The owner is fantastic !! She will definitely make you feel like home. Homemade dinner was just perfect. The view from the hotel is just unreal.  The hotel is situated in the top of the hill. and the best part was Katalijn arranged and suggested the best hiking routes in Sao Antao.  We would definitely visit Casa Das Ilhas again.
