The Questel BronQ Hotel refines the term "Splendid Isolation"

Overlooking the rocky eastern Atlantic coast of Santo Antão Island, the hotel offers spacious, comfortable well-priced  rooms where you can fall asleep to the sound of waves, go for long walks or hikes during the day, and enjoy home cooked meals prepared by the  even more splendid splendid chef/receptionist Dona Jaçalene.

Splendid Isolation!

Recently we stayed two nights at Questel Bronq. The location is remote but amazing. The rooms are spacious and comfortable (the bed also). There is also a swimming pool, from where you can see the rugged coastline and the sea. There are also several beautiful hiking trails in the area. 
It is possible to have dinner, which is very handy because we have not seen any restaurant in the direct surroundings. But the dinner is very good, so stop looking for an alternative. 
Ben, the owner, is a very nice relaxing guy. He is from Cape Verde, but has been living in The Netherlands for years, so he speaks Dutch fluently (English and French also). 
He also managed to track and trace our lost luggage, which had stayed behind in Amsterdam when we arrived, and had it delivered at our next accommodation the following day. This was not very easy, because Santo Antao does not have an airport, so our bag had to travel by ferry also. But Ben somehow managed to arrange this for us. What a guy!
When we left we wished we could have stayed a bit longer. Questel Bronq is really a special place.

A very special place!

My husband and I slept here for 1 night. Beautiful location, lovely staff and great food! They served me glutenfree food at dinner and breakfast. 

The swimming pool was a great addition after our hike through the mountains.

We stayed here for 2 days and 2 nights at the end of July 2019 during our trip to Cape Verde where we visited 4 islands. This hotel was by far the worst we had during our holiday and we had 5 hotels in total. I could write a lot about what went wrong but I’ll try to make it short. The owner of this place pretends to be what he is not. He gave us false info from the start concerning taxi rides. Sometimes during the day, there was no one present. We couldn’t even get a drink or ask a question because the place was deserted. We also had almost no water coming out of the shower and the water was always cold. We told the owner about this one morning. In the evening we asked him again, but then he said that we never mentioned this and called us liars. Even other people (Hotel owners) from a different island, say he is a very strange man. One evening we had a dinner that was beyond terrible. The meat was tough, and the broccoli tasted like water. The owner also has a dog who lives on a ledge where he can’t get off. We went to check his drinking bowl and it was extremely dry. The only thing that was decent, was the breakfast. You might have noticed but we totally do NOT recommend staying here. The location is great, but the owner who is unfair and tells lies and keeps forgetting everything, ruins everything.

Wanna experience “the end of the world feeling”? It’s here. Surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean you’ll have your private room and are looked after really well. An experience not to be missed. These friendly staff are looking after you and make sure you thoroughly enjoy your stay. Highly recommend!

Feel like Floortje Dessing

For this part of the island it is one of the most luxury options there is. Beautiful and large rooms with sea view, a beach option, a large swimmingpool (fill it up Ben 😉) and a more than kind staff. Hiking from here is perfect. Ask Ben or his wife and they will fix it for you. We will visit Questel Bronq again! With love from NL!

Unique location!

We really enjoyed our stay for 5 nights! The staff was great, the owner really nice and helpfull! The landscape and the oceanview breathtaking! There was no water in the pool, because of the drought, but the little beach was nice.

Hotel is run by a Dutch-cape Verdian owner with a great heart as he lets teen-moms gain experience and earn an income to improve their future outlook - they are doing great.

Lovely place to start multiple hikes from and come back to to rest.

Amazing place to stay

Not enough words to describe this amazing place: quiet, calm, fresh air, cool, stunning views, set in a shockingly beautiful landscape: the high mountains and the rough vulcanic coastline, the waves of the Atlantic at your feet. This place started by Ben, a dutch man with capeverdian background; it's based on a original African type of roundhouse. The buildings are spacious and modern, and well made with local stones. The beds are very good and the shower is working well (this water is captured for the garden). Dinner and breakfast are 'simple' but good meals.

It's near the fishing village Cruzinha; so if you like you can watch the fish brought in (and butchered on the rocky coast); if you like you can buy fresh fish there. Ben can tell you all kinds of knowledge of the island, people and flora ans fauna. He can and will join you on a hike if you like and point out interesting bits. The place is set right at the shoreline, the mountains at the back; the northen winds blow constantly, so the heat of the sun is bearable and at night it's cooling off, so sleeping is no problem. It's also very quiet; the only thing one hears are the waves breaking on the shore. It's also a (ot the) starting point for the hike to Ponta do Sol; which is recommended! It's not a difficult hike, and it follows the coastline; the stone road was build by hand in the fifties and leads you along breathtaking views. 

Nearby are two beaches of soft black vulcanic sand; one is just a 5 minute walk, the other maybe half an hour or less. The only thing that's bothering is the plastic garbage washed ashore (or left after one of the parties occasionaly held here by the villagers); this plastic is the legacy of us all. It's not cleaned, which is a shame. The beach is beautifull; the waves are to strong to make swimming enjoyable; actually swimming to far in the ocean is not recommended; it's dangerous and two people have drowned there by not being able to get back to the shore. But if you stay inear the beach it's perfectly safe. The other beach is bigger, as beautifull, but in my opinion more dangerous; i'm a good swimmer, but this current is very powerfull; so only play in the surf and i would keep a sharp eye on children (and the bigger children we call adults).
