Water Street Lighthouse Bed & Breakfast

I stayed at this Bed And Breakfast many, many years ago.  I think around 1999.  Finally I am leaving a comment.  Only because I discovered the buisness card packed far far away in a box left untouched for many moons.  I loved this little place and it is perfectly situated in a small town.  I remembered when I tried to fix the owners computer but was unable too.  Maybe she remembers me....I really want to come back and stay here again.  Maybe this summer would be a good time but when I do it will be for at least a week.  I strongly recommend this little B&B.  Great hospitality.

Shelburne is a pretty little town on the South Shore of Nova Scotia. Though it's close to where we live, a late fall weekend away from home was just what we needed. The hosts, Sharon and Allan were helpful in offering suggestion for things to do and see. The room was clean and comfortable. The B&B is just a few minutes walk from the lovely waterfront of the historic town. 
The breakfast was great and there are several nearby options for the other meals of the day (from plain pub-style food to a sophisticated, but small, restaurant). There are little shops with antiques and handcrafts to wander among. 
We'll definitely be going back again!

Perfect Place to Stay

Best breakfast in Shelburne

We stayed one night in Shelburne and found it to be more like a ghost town. There didn't  seem to be anyone around and when we went out to a recommended seafood eatery we found that is was closed for the night and it was 6.45pm. The Water Street Lighthouse B&B is an old tired heritage house in a ghost town. Sharon was very friendly and the breakfast was very good. We would likely not stay in this town again. This town needs to wake up and start promoting itself and  tourism or it will die completely.

Sleepy little town

This was our first of 9 B&B stays throughout Nova Scotia, and it was miles behind the rest. Despite the big no smoking sign on the second floor, the house had a definite smell to it - either it's been smoked in recently, or it's a smell embedded into the walls / carpets. The room was clean, but very dated - beyond the level of calling it 'charm'. The bed was about the softest (saggiest) I've ever experienced. The bathroom fan was broken - actually hanging out of the ceiling and made a horrible noise.

Breakfast was reasonable - fruit salad, followed by french toast and bacon, served with tea and orange juice.

The hosts were generally a bit indifferent on the phone, and in person. They may have once had a passion for being B&B hosts, but it seems lost, or we managed to catch them at a bad time. 

I wouldn't stay again, and I wouldn't recommend it to friends.
