77 reviewsMy wife and I went to Quebec City to watch the UCI professional Grand Prix des Cyclists on September 12 and 13, which is almost an annual event for us. Given the route is around the old city and the Plains of Abraham, we try to stay in Vieux Quebec. Although currently a “one-star” at the time of this review, we decided on Hotel Maison Sainte-Ursule. We were glad we did. We were greeted by Rene who couldn’t have been more pleasant or helpful. Like many small places in the old city, there is no parking on site, so you are directed to use one of a few underground public parking lots. On our first pass, the nearest was full. Upon returning, although he didn’t have to, Rene actually drove with another guest (we followed) to the next lot, who was clearly flustered about negotiating old Quebec. To put it into perspective, parking was about a 5-10 minute walk from the hotel, so best to drop your luggage off first. We arrived back to find that Rene had already put our luggage in our room before he left with us. Very kind and attentive. The hotel has a main building on the street, as well as other rooms with separate entrances from an interior courtyard. I cannot speak for the main building as we did not see that. We had a beautiful room on the interior on the second floor, with french doors that faced the courtyard. My wife and I sat at the table with the doors open over a nice bottle of wine and enjoyed a beautiful early fall afternoon before venturing into old Quebec. Perfect. The room was newly renovated and, in our past experience, quite large for the old city. The bathroom was huge, and the room exceptionally clean. My only complaint was both my wife and I found the mattress very hard, so sleep was a little broken at times. I would recommend the hotel address this, as folks are there mainly as a place to spend the night. To my knowledge, there were no dining services, although in the old city, we would not have used them. However, when we needed anything (plates, cutlery, wine opener) the staff gladly provided. Notwithstanding the mattress, given the room, location, and staff, I can do nothing but highly recommend this hotel (ask for an interior room).
