Right at the south of Cape Breton, this is a good place to stay to begin any Cape Breton excursion.  It is close to Port Hawksbury and generally a cute community with quick access to the big divider between Cape Breton and the rest of Nova Scotia.

Very convenient and comfortable

On the way into the area my car had broke down, I let them know I would be extremely late. When I arrived after front desk closing time the owner of the hotel was still waiting for me with a friendly smile. I was checked in quickly and proceeded to pick up my husband needless to say it was the wee hrs by the time we settled 

I was extremely apprehensive opening the door to our room and the previous reviews. Our room was clean and well maintained Room #116  of course it isn't the Ritz and I have travelled extensively, being in the travel industry.

The beds were comfortable and the heater in our room worked great quickly taking the damp feeling from the room 

Our little girl lost her first tooth during the night, when we departed we forgot her tooth on the night stand. I called the hotel as soon as I realized and the staff found/packaged her tooth wrote her a sweet note and had it waiting at the front desk when we passed by late that same day 

I have stayed close by in the area 1/2 hourish in any direction and paid dbl and paid up to dbl and really didn't get any more then what we had here

Great Value, caring staff

We were told the bar/restaurant would close at 10pm. However, we went back from Portree with the idea of having a drink there and the receptionist told us they would not serve us drinks just before 9:30 because there was no clients at the moment, and not even let us to stay on the living room, so we had to come back to our lodge with no any common space to pass the time.

Was going to stay there on Dec 14 2019 walked in room was very cold not much lighting.Tv didn’t work and very old and dirty.Beds were old with stains and blankets were not clean.there was dirt running down the walls.if your thinking off staying there think again. Everything was out dated And dirty I would not recommend this hotel to anyone could leave with bugs to carry with you my dog wasn’t even comfortable left again that same night to find another hotel. Lost 120 bucks tho but it worth leaving.

Just how terrible this hotel is can be well understood from the other reviews - Here I am going to raise how this hotel is also a scam.

I made a reservation for a room with a single bed on Hotels.com. Since they sold that room to someone else before I arrived - they simply tagged me as "no-show", and forced a room with two (horrible) beds and overcharged me when I arrived. The manager is rude and uncouth, and I did not have energy to fight after a long drive. Just horrible experience to stay at this property - stay in your car if you have to but avoid this hotel.

Terrible stay - and Scam hotel

Had to stay here as a last minute stop and all other hotels in the area didn’t have vacancy to accommodate our group. $95 to spend a night in our clothes laying above the covers, with the window open because the air quality was so poor. 

As we were in a larger group, we required 10+ rooms and wow, did we ever have a great time playing “who’s room was worse.” There were questionable stains in every single room, ranging from possible blood, food and other bodily fluids. Gag-worthy. Wallpaper is falling off in numerous places and there was food under the bed from who knows when. TVs didn’t work and issues with the wifi - although those should be the hotels last priorities when focusing on improvements. Be prepared for weird sounds throughout the hotel all night as well. 

If you’re looking for a dirty, unkept, overpriced hotel that will leave you feeling unrested and with the (hopefully) paranoid itchy feeling of bugs all over you, Skye Lodge is the place for you!

Surprised it has been able to stay open... Will NEVER be staying here again.

Guess Your Stain

This has to be the worst motel i’ve ever stayed at. We payed $115 for one night. The room was filthy. Our room had cobwebs in every corner of the room and additional to that we found 6 large spiders. The bed had hair in it. Bathroom was very dirty, had dust and hair all over the place. The window wouldn’t open and the room smelled awful. Wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. Stay out of here.

Horrible

Unable to find better accommodation we accepted asked Lodge. It is a very visible spot near the Tourist information building in Port Hastings. Impossible to miss. 
My partner is much more accepting of substandard lodging than I. It’s a bed for the night, get over it, is his stance. I tend to think of unwanted pestilence and too soft a bed. 
Incredibly the bed was fairly comfortable and we survived the experience. However I declined staying at the same spot on our return trip.
