My wife and I stayed at this inn in Petit Saguenay for three nights in June on the eleventh leg of our Ontario and Quebec road trip.  We arrived mid-afternoon and were met by Marie José who gave us the warmest of welcomes.  There was ample space for us to park our car and we caught our first glimpse of the magnificent gardens to the rear of the property. We were shown round this attractive establishment, with so many appealing features. There were plenty of places where we could sit outside to enjoy the dappled sunlight.

Our dual aspect room on the first floor had views to the front and the side of the property.  The huge sliding door opened to a verandah with two chairs.  The room benefited from an effective and mercifully quiet air conditioning unit.  There was a king sized double bed provided with quality sheets.    It was a comfortable bed with a supportive mattress. The clothes storage consisted of an open hanging space but there were no drawers or cupboards. We were pleased to find that there was a small fridge freezer for storing chilled foods, such as picnic provisions, as well as a microwave. Our room was a junior suite, and it had a settee, an arm chair, a dining table and chairs and the largest parlour palm one could possibly imagine.  The room was so spacious and comfortable.  The ensuite bathroom contained a spa bath, compact shower enclosure, a sink and toilet.  Towels were soft and fluffy.  The internet signal was very strong which was particularly helpful.

We ate in the inn’s restaurant on our first night.  Our meal was delicious - we both chose bison medallions in a blueberry sauce, accompanied by rice and ratatouille.  We had citrus mousse to finish. Michel was our chef and he offered a wide range of interesting options for dinner.  We chose to self-cater for breakfast.

Our hosts were very pleasant and we enjoyed talking to them immensely.  The property is beautiful with so many homely touches.  We are so glad that we stayed here - both for the comfort of staying in such a wonderful inn, but also as a base to drive around this fascinating area.  It should be noted that the inn is in an extremely quiet residential area, and well-served by a small but impressively well-stocked supermarket just five minutes away on foot.

UPDATE:  After leaving the Auberge we drove to our next accommodation near Lac St Jean.  As we approached our destination we received a succession of critical incident alerts about a potentially dangerous situation.  After being corralled into a protected area, and with the situation still unresolved we opted to return to The Auberge du Jardin, where we received such concern and care for our well-being.  It was very touching.  We stayed for a further three night before continuing with our tour.  We were so grateful to Marie José and Michel for their kindness - they are consummate hosts and it has been a delight to have shared time with these wonderful people.

Gorgeous accommodation, wonderful hosts

The hostel is well located to go to the Fjord side, either to the national park (Eternity Bay sector 30 minutes away) or to Baie Sainte Catherine to (hopefully) see the cetaceans and visit Tadoussac (1h/1h20). The outside is breathtaking, especially in the evening, with the lighted mountain. The interior is however dated, with consequences of a bad neighbor soundproofing (we hear the neighbor snoring), a somewhat capricious plumbing and a very hard bed.

Vacation in the Saguenay

We tried to leave the doors and the window closed, and to leave the ventilation of the bathroom open to try to lower that damp night, but when cleaning the room, they took care of closing the window just to make the cabin and the dampness in the kitchen. We wanted to get to the hotel's restaurant, a very badly closed Sunday night, but it was not a good idea to open the restaurant, especially when we were at 19:30 p.m. when we were at the restaurant, and we were at the restaurant, and we were at the restaurant, and we were at the restaurant, and we were at the restaurant, and we were at the restaurant, and we were at the restaurant, and we were at the restaurant, and we were at the restaurant, and we were at the restaurant.

Disappointing

I really liked the charm and calm of the hostel. The room was spacious and the common areas very well decorated. The hospitality of the guests was excellent! Michel shared with me a lot of good advice about the area that allowed me to discover fabulous places. Marie José was very pleasant and with little care. The lunch was as good as it was! My only regret was that I missed the opening of the restaurant for a few days. I recommend for accommodation in the area.

A quiet little corner

Warm house, beautiful terrain but room from the 80s and very hard mattress! It gave me a big back pain. Everything is hyper old, the toilet doesn't shoot, the shower is hard to adjust. There's really better in this area.

We've had the pleasure of meeting Frenchmen who have been here for 22 years. The comfort of the room is perfect, the view is beautiful. Just a little bit of a snack on the kitchen, a little simplistic.

A very nice stage of our trip to Quebec. A very warm welcome from Marie-José, very available and with little care for her guests. She knows how to share her love for this beautiful place that is Petit Saguenay and has offered us lots of advice on how to discover it. Very nice and clean rooms; excellent breakfast with salt and sugar; we also had a very good dinner tasting Michel's kitchen. Great free parking available. Thanks again. We will return on a next trip on the road to Gaspésie. A warm welcome from Alsace!

The reception of Marie José and Michel is warm, Michel's cuisine is very good and well presented, and breakfast is consistent. The environment is very nice, and the location of this hostel is strategic between Tadoussac, Lake St. Jean and Rivière du Loup if you want to visit the Gaspésie.

Friendly and friendly

In the middle of Petit-Saguenay on the main road, clean and comfortable accommodation without any problems, as in a hotel, practical, but not in my opinion as charming as elsewhere.
