Gerda's Bed & Breakfast

Gorda is a great hostess and her accommodations are just fine. The rooms are very well furnished and scrupulously clean. The house is very well located to Parry Sound and we highly recommend staying here.

Great B & B in Parry Sound!

+ interessting home with a beautiful garden
+ tasty breakfast
+ location is near to the beach

- the whole floor in the room and the nightstand were not cleaned (hair from other guests on the floor)
- the bed was too small
- the shower is outside the room
- Check in at 4pm and check out at 10am.
- Before checkout she took the bedclothes and towels (!) to wash them, because she didn't want to wait.

B&B just for one night stop

[Preface: Our review seems related to Mary Ann R’s posting.  Our stay was from August 3rd to 4th.  Mary Ann didn’t end up with a room at all and we ended up with a different room than promised.  Also, it was the room we ended up with which Mary Ann was given a tour of--our belongings were in the room during this tour, as well!.]

In early July, we arranged via email and one phone call for a one night stay in a "one bed in larger room with attached bathroom'.  I included this description on the requested cheque to pay for the room--as credit card is not accepted.

Gerda appeared to be surprised by our arrival and showed us to what she presented as our booked room—quite opposite to what we were promised!  The room was small, with two separate beds and sharing the bathroom at the other end of the hall.
When I presented her the print out of our email exchange to validate which room we booked, she advised we would be refunded the $10 price difference and explained all of the other rooms were already occupied.

As it was holiday long weekend and we were in an unfamiliar town, we decided to make do with the room we were provided—semi-satisfied that we’d at least be refunded $10.
The next morning, breakfast was served as a group with the other guests. Food was great and it was a nice opportunity to meet new people. Afterwards, we packed up prepared to leave. 

When we inquired about our $10 refund, Gerda had ignored what she had told us, returning only $5-- as there was a $5 “deposit” for the room. [This was never disclosed.]  We reminded her about what she'd advised us the day prior, she replied loudly stating "Don't argue! Don’t argue!”  Very obviously trying to prevent us from discussing this any further and creating an uncomfortable scene for her while other guests were in the house. We left without pressing her error further.

The actual monetary amount was not upsetting; but instead, it was the principle of staying true to what's promised and the lack of customer service regarding her error regarding the room.  This really spoiled the experience of staying at this B&B. We will never stay there again and would NOT recommend anyone else to be scammed by this lady's lack of diligence.

Nice B&B – but did not receive what was paid for!

In early May 2015 I booked two nights at Gerda's by phone, requesting the large room with attached bathroom.  I then sent her a check for $58 as requested for deposit.
On arrival  at 3.45 pm on Aug.7 we were told our room had been given to other people and we could have a room with a shared bathroom for one night and move to the room we had booked on our second night. Who would want to do this on a two night break?
We refused her offer without entering the house and set off to try to find other accommodation in the small town where their annual Festival of Music was entering its final w/e. We were helped out by the Comfort Inn who, when we told them our problem,found us a room. This cost us $50 per night more.
We returned to Gerda's the next morning and received our deposit back.
We strongly feel that Tripadvisor should remove this accommodation from the listings in view of this and the two other reviews of a similar nature which appear on this site.

Untrustworthy Landlady

My two friends stayed there this past summer.  They were subjected to lengthy prayers before the breakfast.  Gerda also made anti-semitic remarks.  These are both totally unacceptable.  No one should be forced to listen to prayers in order to eat, and the latter comment speaks for itself.
