The Lodge at Weir's Beach

A first ever visit to Vancouver Island and we could not have chosen a better place to stay. The Lodge's back garden ends above the secluded Weir's Beach where we saw a Bald Eagle, a dozen or so Canada Geese, a lone seal, and a Blue Heron. Sadly the lid of Orcas sighted just before we arrived did not return. The rooms are comfortable and elegant. We did not pre-order breakfast which Marg, the ever efficient host, will provide and cook for $15 per head. Instead we used the nearby Broken Paddle Coffee Shop. There is a small grocery store in Metchosin which can supply almost everything except beer and spirits which can be obtained in a liquor store not many miles away. Opposite the store there is a bar with a Sugar Shack, and also a Pizza outlet. On day 1 we visited Sooke, Shirley, Jackson River and Port Renfrew. Day 2 we explored the lakes west of Victoria and had an early dinner in Chinatown. The Lodge is ideally placed for such ventures but another day or so would be required to to see mire of the Pacific Rim National Park around Tofino. Very much 5*!
