as their name suggests, they are super economic. they have dorms and private rooms for ~5$ in low season. don't expect any thing luxurious out of that price. however, unlike many of the places at that budget, this place is reasonably clean. its location being close to old montreal is an incentive.

It was incredibly deceptive that the hostel was listed as "$9/person/night, but what you don't find out until later is that there is a $35 "cleaning fee", a $300 cash deposit required upon arrival, and $22 dollars in taxes. In addition, you have to clean the hostel, empty all the trash, and sweep it yourself before leaving, or else you forfeit your deposit. I have never been asked to do this in any establishment where I have lodged, across many different countries (even though I always stay in economic hostels). I also find it incredibly misleading that the booking agents mention nothing about this. We had no other choice but to stay there, since we didn't find out about all of this until right before coming to Montreal. Also, the hostel is not close to the center of Montreal. To get to the center, you have to walk and take the metro or walk about an hour. The man who runs the hostel is not very friendly. If you do not wear socks only in the hostel, you forfeit your deposit. If you do not properly sort your trash into waste, compost, and recycling, you forfeit your deposit. If you leave dishes to dry for a little while without putting them away, you forfeit your deposit. Also, there is a security camera watching you at all times, and there are condescending signs all around the hostel telling you how to use a stove and how to take a shower. There is a sign on the door that if any liquid is spilled on the bed, you will be fined $1,000. It was clean enough, but everything was a huge hassle. I would never stay here again.
