Snowshoe Inn

Great stay, very clean, comfy beds, very quite even though the hotel was full.  Rooms have fridges and microwaves, no A/C so ask for a lower level room if visiting during the heat,  Front desk personnel and cleaners were very pleasant and helpful.  We had a great breakfast at the cafe across the street and there are two stores for supplies within walking distance.

I stayed at the Snowshoe Inn for one week while I was working in Fort Providence.  All the staff at the Inn were so helpful and kind! I really enjoyed the newly renovated rooms.  The artwork was appeasing,  the bedding was very nice and cozy, the armchairs were great to sit and relax in, and the USB charging sockets on the lap were so handy!

I still can't get over how amazing the view was from my room!  Watching the sunset each day was a treat, getting a glimpse of the dancing Northern Lights was spectacular and seeing a herd of bison casually walking up the street was something I thought I'd never get to see!

I dined at the Snowshoe Inn Cafe each breakfast and lunch, there was a variety of food options to pick from!  I enjoyed the breakfast the most as it fueled me up for each busy day! 

At the Snowshoe Inn Arts and Crafts shop I picked up a couple of handmade items to bring back home, including a little pair of baby moccasin boots for a friend, I wish I picked up a pair for myself!

I have stayed at the Snowshoe Inn many times and have always had a wonderful stay. 

My two recent visits (the nights each time) were both business related and their service has continued to remain very high, better than some other large chain hotels. 

The staff and management are a pleasure to deal with and they keep the building spotlessly clean, which is difficult due to the sidewalks and parking lots not being paved.  

Keep up the great work and I will see you again on my next trip.

I have read bad reviews about this hotel.  Forget them if you like 'Energy'.
A great place in a small Northern Community with Original People.
There is this Energy in this small motel that I have never experienced in my Lifetime.

Something special.  Unknown.

Has to do with something about Great Slave Lake 'starting' one of the Greatest Rivers on Earth
This is why I keep coming back to this motel.

The room and bed were very comfortable, with beautiful renovations. The only thing that was annoying was running the microwave at the same time as room next door which blew a breaker but we got it figured out. The breakfast at the cafe was quite good as well. The town bison were amazing.

We only stayed one night in this friendly inn but I would definitely stay here again. The décor is visually appealing with lots of historical photographs. We had supper in their café across the street where I had the best veggie burger for a very long time. My only regret is that the artwork in the glass cabinet near reception was not for sale. I was unable to visit the gallery, also across the road, as we arrived late on a Sunday and left early on the Monday.

We came as a group the first week of January.  I had heard it was dated.  Renovations have started.  The lobby and first floor look great.  The photos along the hallway tell the story of the area.
Coffee was hot and readily available.  Best coffee in the area.  
Room was definitely dated but was very clean.  Hotel was quiet.  Grounds are right along the Mackenzie and there are steps down to the river.
Staff are very friendly and helpful.
I would not hesitate to rest my head here again if I was in the area.  Pictures are the view of the river from the hotel.

I have stayed at the Snowshoe Inn every time I come to Fort Providence. The hotel is a bit dated, but the rooms are always clean and well appointed, and the staff is friendly. Microwave and mini fridge in every room. Sadly no free Internet. 

Snowshoe Inn is absolutely the place to stay in Fort Providence.

Lovely little hotel on the MacKenzie River.

A comfortable overnight stay

A Special Hotel where the Mackenzie River starts....

Just right

It was a comfortable quiet room beside the Mackenzie River.  The restaurant for the hotel is across the road. Decent food.
The price was about what you come to expect while travelling around the NWT.
It is a good pitstop on the way to or from Yellowknife if you don't want to do a marathon driving session each day.

clean, but dated

The good:
- convenient location when it's too far to continue to Yellowknife, Fort Simpson or Hay River
- fridge, microwave, coffee machine and TV in room
- nicely updated bathroom and sink (outside bathroom);  we can live with the 70's era wood paneling and vinyl & carpet flooring
- room was clean, no bad odors

Needs work:
- the mattress lacked support, was either very old or very cheap
- NWT still allows smoking in designated rooms?  Ours was a non-smoking room, but this is hard to believe
- musty smell in hall (not sure if this is related to the smoking rooms or just poor ventilation;  not sure if a can of Febreze would help)
- no free Internet (if concerned about high users, some places give pass-codes which allow 200 MB, enough for a reasonable amount of email and web surfing, but not video)
- price - we got more value for our money in more remote places such as Fort Smith and Fort Simpson
