UPEI Summer Accommodations

The husband and I stayed for one night and I must say what a hidden gem this was. I was pleased with the service, quality and pricing. We are already planning our next trip to Charlottetown and we are for sure staying again.

Stayed here for a quick two day Island getaway in a single suite at Andrew Hall.  It was large and very clean.  Despite sleeping on a Captain's Bed, it was comfortable.  No complaints.  UPEI Summer Residence is a great budget friendly option w/free parking and WiFi.

I did not utilize the campus cafeteria/buffet during my stay.

My family held a reunion at UPEI this summer with 76 people in attendance. The accommodations were very good with two bedrooms and a small kitchenette. Staff were friendly and helpful. We used their back patio area Friday night which was beside a large green space that provided us with a nice place to play and gather to visit. It rained heavily on Saturday but we were ok as we rented a large room where we held various activities. We had a meal from the Wanda Wyatt dining hall catered and it was done very nicely.

We stayed in Andrews Hall in a 2-bedroom suite with a kitchenette.  It was pretty basic, but centrally located.  There were lots of restaurants and grocery stores within walking or driving distance.  There were youth teams staying in the building, but we didn't hear or see them except in the lobby and parking lot.  It was quiet.  The beds in our unit were 2 full-size beds and 2 twin-size beds.  All of them were quite firm.  If you stay here, you need to bring some basics like a hair dryer and shampoo.  They provided towels, soap and a couple of plastic cups, but that was about it.  The kitchenette had a small refrigerator with a little freezer, a large sink, microwave, dining table and chairs.  The bedrooms had a desk and large closet area.  The bathroom had a tub with a shower. The room was air conditioned.   Guests also have access to a huge laundry room.  It is a good value and good location.  We would not hesitate to stay here again.

Rather than being crammed into a small hotel room, we stayed at UPEI for 3 nights in a lovely spacious 3-bedroom suite on the ground floor. I firmly believe that having lots of room and a bit of privacy helps a family have a good vacation! 

Reservations were handled very professionally on-line. The University and residence was easy to find when driving in from the airport. Though we didn't get in till late, there was no problem with late check-in; the front desk has staff 24/7. Extra towels and linens were always available.

Though the res mattresses were hard, (as all dorm mattresses are), this was a pretty sweet set up. The suite was air-conditioned (and it was actually a bit too cold the first night until we figured out how to change the temp.) Each room had a desk, night table and television. There were double and single beds. The kitchen was located in the common area of the suite and had a table where we could all sit. The laundry facilities were handy and clean. Parking was free. We ate breakfast at the cafeteria twice and it was good! The staff in the caf was great, as were the staff at the front desk.

I would stay here again!

Do not reserve here if you are expecting hotel mattresses or hotel amenities. Think carefully about what is important to you before opting for a university residence stay. If you want great value and don't mind budget accommodations away from the tourist attractions, this could be fine for you. If you can't sleep on a rock hard dorm mattress, do not reserve here and complain later! If aren't happy in anything below a Holiday Inn Express, this is not for you.

Summer vacation 

New Residence, South Tower Apartments: 2 bedrooms, 4 beds, 2 bathrooms, kitchen, living area. Where to start? There were no directions on where to check-in; we hauled all of our baggage to two different locations and back again. Waited in line for 15 minutes to check in, but that wasn't awful. Hauled luggage back to the residence we were in (by the way, plan to walk quite a distance from the parking lot with your bags, as the parking lot isn't close to the entrance). Our room smelled funny and furniture is VERY basic, uncomfortable (yes this includes the beds) and couch was stained. There are no blinds and the curtains don't cover the 1.5" gap between the wall and curtain, so be prepared to have the light in your face while you sleep. Rooms were relatively clean, but housekeeping didn't touch our room at all, despite asking if we wanted service (we said yes) and there was a random spoon on my open closet shelf, which makes me wonder what else was lurking, other than the obvious sink drain FULL of hair. You need to bring all your amenities, as the only thing provided is soap, towels and bedding. There are no tv's, paper, pens or kitchen items of any kid, unless you request them from the front desk the day before. Temperature of the room was good, but the showers will randomly decide to scald you or freeze you on its own. The front desk has no clue when breakfast is being served, but the food was okay if you managed to figure out when. For $199 a night, I would expect a little better.

Hotel without amenities

The room was clean and warm and that is about it. The staff at reception were wonderful and helpful but if you are offering hotel accommodations then you should have minimal hotel offerings such as bed side table lamps, comforters, and a TV that is actually hooked up to Wi-fi or cable. The breakfast was enjoyable but the wonderful staff and coffee in the morning do not make up for not having basic amenities. I usually try to leave only good reviews but this stay was really not enjoyable at all and I felt others should know in advance that a bed side lamp was unavailable even when I specifically asked

Not Enjoyable but Lovely Staff

Words can not describe the filth that  UPEI is! 

The entrance where we had to roll our suitcases through, was nothing but a bunch of broken asphalt  filled with mud. “Welcome, please roll your laundry though this puddle before you come in” 
How inviting. The “flower pot” to the left of the door was surrounded by clear bags of garbage the entire weekend. Not once did any of your staff make an effort to clean it. The rugs in the entrance were filled with mud, the room behind the glass windows to the left was an absolute disgrace, the laundry room I don’t think has been cleaned in five years, the main common area was disgusting. The garbage can was so full all weekend that people just continue to put their garbage all over the floor. As we made our way down the hallway, there was trash in the halls, garbage cans that were catching water from ceilings that were leaking above, and then there was our room. No, we didn’t pay a great deal of money for accommodations, but for $137 per night, we at least expected to have toilet paper, to which we did not! The silverware drawer was full of the old food from the previous guest, or my guess is from three guests before that. The floor felt like a bar at the end of the night, that had drinks spilled all over it. The bedsheets clearly had stains on them, on the part that was flipped over and neatly tucked. And the bathroom! Where do I begin? There was so much hair on the floor and in the corners of the tub surround, the shower curtain did not have all the hooks, there was something blue and sticky all over it, the sink had not been wiped down because there were toothpaste stains all over it. The toilet scrubber next to the toilet still had toilet paper on it from the last time it had been used. There were two towels in a room with four beds. A room that I advised your staff that would house five people for four days. And we had two towels!  There was no hand soap, There was no dish soap, there was no dish soap, there were no dish towels, there was no paper towels, there was no Kleenex, nothing. When I went to the front desk to ask for these basic necessities, I was met with a gesture of “oh, they should all be in the room. We have some here if you need it though “to which my reply was “ for $137 a night, the last thing any guest should have to do is walk back through the mud puddle to go to the front desk to ask for soap and toilet paper!” Then I had to go back later that evening, because I forgot to ask for extra towels to which I was told “oh, you need to exchange the ones that you have that have been used before you can get new ones” and when I explained that we had five people staying in our room which is what I booked, and that we only had two, she said to me “but you still have to exchange your dirty ones before you get clean ones”

We were refunded our entire amount paid for the 3 nights! This place is disgusting. It’s hot, it’s old, the building stinks and the people were NOT friendly! 

We had to go out and buy our own towels, bed sheets, pillows, blankets, cutlery, and cleaning supplies to scrub the surfaces we knew we would use! The window sills were an inch thick with red mud! We took all our own food to cook and all we did was clean a spot in the fridge to store it in and it stayed there all weekend. The dishes were so gross, we wouldn’t even cook in there. 

DO NOT STAY AT UPEI!!  50/10, I Do Not Recommend!

Deplorable Accommodations!!! DO NOT STAY HERE!

Blanchard Hall is awful. The building itself is very old, run-down and unbearably hot. There is no air conditioning and the rooms do not have any fans. Our room/apartment was dirty when  we arrived - garbage cans not emptied, toilet not clean, absolutely disgusting toilet brush that I did not want to go near, dirty floors, etc. We wore flip-flops at all times. I did not want my bare feet touching the floors or shower. Appliances were broken and/or noisy/inefficient. All the furniture is old and uncomfortable, the TVs are old box TVs from the 90s (cannot even connect to laptop). We saw at least 3 COCKROACHES during our stay and many more bugs.

The even-numbered rooms facing the campus overlook a construction site. It was noisy and the blowing dust left the apartment and our things covered in red dust. The free laundry room was appreciated but half the machines didn't work and it was a mess - water all over the floor, dirty, clothing and dryer lint everywhere, etc. There are also no elevators in Blanchard Hall. 

Have stayed in many backpacker hostels and low-budget hotels - this is by far the worst place I have ever stayed. AVOID!

Blanchard Hall - Absolutely disgusting

We stayed in a two bedroom suite in Blanchard Hall. The student workers at the front desk were nice and helpful whenever we gave them a call, but that was the only good part while staying at UPEI. The rooms were disgusting, especially the floors and sofas which had huge stains in them, and two window screens were straight up broken. We had to tamper with the electric box for a while to get the stove to work, and the fridge was on the verge of breaking, and it periodically gave out screeching noises which was highly disruptive, especially at night while we were trying to sleep. It had no A/C and no fans, which should be a basic utility. It was way too pricey for such a run-down dump.
