Nice rooms, Wendy & Mary are GREAT!  Nice location.  Wendy was very helpful with directions, recommendations & gave us a voucher for savings on Calgary locations.  Rooms were spacious.  Will definitely be back if in area.  The continental breakfast was a little lame.

great staff!

The rooms are simple, comfortable and a great price. The staff is very friendly. There is a pub attached that is perfect for live music. Everything you may need is within walking distance (restaurants, Superstore, etc.$

Great location

Don't even think that this property values transient travellers. We called "security" from midnight to 3am about"noise" from lower floor. Answer was they're only talking. I can't stop people from talking. Besides he (the registered guest) is a "regular" and we should accept this fact. The lady visitor no left around 4am? and we finally fell asleep. We heard everything about her requests to him.

Worst stay anywhere

I was staying next door on a business trip in September and the went in there for a drink. The outside is a bit grim but the interior is warm and welcoming. The barmaid was very friendly and cheerful and served quickly and efficiently. I ordered the fried pickles which were very nice; not oily and quite light. I drank the local beer made for the bar. It was served nice and cold in a big jug. 
I really enjoyed the evening and would go back.

The manager Wendy is the nastiest person I have ever encountered. She is crude, rude, bossy, and a bully. She is training her staff to be the same way. After eating at the hotel restaurant, I became ill. I was in bed trying to get some rest. She kept banging on the door and disturbing me. I told her that I was sick and did not need any services. She said that is too bad, we have to come into your room every two days. I had just arrived at the hotel and had not been out of bed yet so I did not need any services. The next time I was in the bathroom, when she started banging on the door again. I tried again to tell her that I was ill and needed to be left alone. She again said that is too bad they were coming into the room. There is no "Do Not Disturb" signs available. Not that, that would have mattered she would just ignore it and come into my room anyway. I have traveled the world and stayed in many hotels in many different countries and never have I been treated in such a disrespectful manner. I would never suggest any one stay at this hotel. I had booked the hotel through booking.com. she told me that we are charged extra when we book through them. I was a week between traveling and wanted to get caught up on some much needed rest. She just did not show any kind of compassion, understanding, empathy, or any kind of descent human emotion.

DO NOT STAY AT THIS PLACE

In my opinion, whether the staff is charming or not doesn't change the fact that this hotel needs to be demolished or seriously renovated. I came down here on a Friday and a Saturday night. I couldn't go anywhere else because the nearby hotels were full because of an international event that was taking place at Spruce Meadows. The price is very good for Calgary (89 dollars a night), but it includes doors that need to be closed by pushing (the bathroom door wasn't closing), paint and cracking wood, a soft shower curtain and a broken TV. If you're content with a comfortable bed and a good water pressure in the bar, then this hotel!

Very old-fashioned.

As far as I'm concerned, no matter how cordial the staff may be, this hotel needs to be demolished or at least completely renovated. There was a Friday and a Saturday night. I couldn't move to another nearby hotel because they were all full because of a sports event at Spruce Meadows. The price is very reasonable for Calgary ($89 a night), but it includes doors that close only with a shoulder (the bathroom one didn't close at all), paint that is fading, unmixed wood finishes, mold-covered shower tent and a TV that doesn't work.
