Aurelia Palace

Last summer, I went on a business trip and I stayed at Aurelia Palace. The hotel was awesome, the service was great. The room was a presidential suite with easy access to the internet. I would recommend anyone going to yaounde to check out this new hotel.

Excellent

We came to this hotel because the one we stayed before was awful, so expectations were rather low. Once you negotiated the entrance with its garish art work it is an OK place, but some investments and better service could make a real gem out of the house. The staff is very friendly and always present but works really slowly, the location is quiet (attention: not many restaurants around) and the rooms offer a lot of space as often, one or two rooms share a sitting area and some even have a kitchen. A swimming pool is available but the water did not look inviting - better to plant some trees and have a nice garden! The quality of the infrastructure is not high: there is no hot water, the door to my bathroom did not close, a mouse was running around in my room one night... but the bed was fine and AC worked (they have a generator in case there is no power - it is really loud but it works...). Getting some work done in the bed room proper is difficult but in the sitting area there are sofas (but no real desk). Wifi was slow but rather stable. Breakfast is soso (the omelette is tasty, the croissant is awful) and food in the restaurant is not bad but takes ages to arrive. They have no real laundry service, and my clothes needed 4 days to return! Overall, it is overpriced but at least covers basic needs.

a lot of space

The apartment hotel is definitely not a luxury hotel as indicated by certain guide books. The official prices can be negotiated down a lot which makes it comparable to any other normal hotel price in Yaoundé. The place is clean and the staff is very friendly and helpful. One big negative is the location as you need a car/taxi to get to places to eat.

Ok hotel

This is the hotel that time forgot. Taxi drivers don't know where it is (and that's a problem in a city where addresses are meaningless). Cameroonians haven't heard of it. And I think I was the only guest. I chose it for the pool and the beautiful deck - but when I arrived the deck was faded and the water a soupy green. The staff was not actually hostile, but mediocre. I asked them if the pool was ok to swim in and they didn't really have an answer. They assured me there was hot water in my room and I should just let it run - but no, if there's only water from one pipe that means there's no hot water coming ever so just tell me that and don't waste my time. I don't think anyone is running the place. It just sort of keeps going. My suite was spacious and clean, so if management changes and they get their act together it could be ok. Ask tough questions about the pool and hot water and electricity (1 of 8 sockets in my room worked). But in the meantime, I recommend any other hotel in Yaoundé. 

Overpriced and terrible

My colleague and I had the worst experience in this hotel! First it was costly with extremely poor service. The ACs were not working. The restaurant food was like poison and takes too long to provide.
The worst experience was when thieves went into each of our rooms while we were asleep and made away with anything valuable including our computers, phones and all monies. The funny thing was that they unlocked each of our doors and locked us back in, suggesting they must have drugged us and must have been an insider job. The hotel management were very dubious in settling the matter, especially when they realized we had to leave their country the next day.
My advice is that for your own safety while in Younde, "STAY AS FAR AWAY FROM AURELIA PALACE HOTEL AS POSSIBLE".
