Silver Dolphin Guesthouse

We didn’t stay here but were thinking of doing a kayak excursion and they helped us enormously, even more so than the tourist office. As a result we booked an amazing dolphin trip through them and had some tasty food afterward at the guesthouse. The lady on reception has great English and was happy to help us book our trip to Phnom Penh which was very useful as the place we stayed spoke zero English. 

Spent 4 nights in total. Started in Room 201 with just a fan and found that too hot. Requested a move to an air-conditioned room and got 404 on the top floor with a great deck and view of the Mekong outside. The next room was a triple with 3 double beds and aircon. Our bed was more comfortable than our own apartment bed and aircon made the hot season very bearable. The guesthouse also ran its own dolphin tours and we took up the 1/2 day kayak and dolphin tour. We had a great guide: Mr Phira who had great English and a sense of humor. We fell out of the kayak once but had lifevests and Phira assisted us to get back in and upright. We paddled as close to the dolphins as the tourist boats and all operators are careful not to get too close and scare off the dolphins. Relaxed in the afternoon. Next day took the ferry across the island and hired bicycles to leisurely pedal around the island visiting the landmarks. - only 7km in total. We finished the day with relaxing & swimming from the relaxation platforms set up along the beach-side.

Hostel is extremely basic, but is advertised as such. No a/c, just fans, but for me that was fine. Shared bathrooms  are extremely basic, and not many for he amount of guests, but again, you get what you pay for, and it’s a cheap hostel. The owners are nice and helpful. We did he dolphin tour with them, which was definitely worth it. Prices for that are cheaper if you have more people. If you have over ten, it’s the cheapest rate. But easy enough to share with others at the hostel. Breakfast is included in the tour, and it was excellent, a baguette, butter and jam, fried egg fruit and coffee. Then transport along th Mekong in the back of a truck with the kayaks, kayaking in pairs downriver, a stop at an island for a swim, then to the dolphin area. We didn’t see them doing fancy acrobatics, but you could see them swimming around and surfacing. Had to pay an extra 7$ for that apart from the tour cost, but if the money does go back to help preservation, as we were told, would be worth it. I enjoyed the tour, would recommend it. 
Kratie itself is a sleepy little town, take the time to walk south of the hostel along the river, and you come to a fishing village. People looked mildly surprised to see us wandering around, but were very friendly.

This guesthouse is beautiful, interesting location with a view to the Mekong, to obeserve local life and having a sundowner on the roof top terrace and balcony.

Simple rooms, ok and very clean - nothing to complain!

I can recommand, good experience there with all the familiy and I come back for sure!

My partner and I are staying here at the moment in a private double room with bathroom and air con. All the facilities work fine and the room is clean. 

The staff here are friendly and they vary in levels of English and French that they can speak. But all of them.are very helpful and pleasant to speak with - and the kids are so cute!

We just came back from the dolphin kayaking experience and it is worth every dollar! Our guide (whose name I unfortunately can't remember) was so helpful, knowledgeable, and even jumped into the water to help us out of a sticky situation with the rapids and a stubborn tree that wouldn't let us go! We came within 7 meters of a dolphin coming up for air and you actually spend a good 1.5 hours in the main area, hearing and seeing them all around. 

From our experience, the negative reviews previously listed don't match up with what we have encountered on our trip. Do not hesitate to stay at this place and book the kayaking with Silver Dolphin.

Stay at silver dolphin

Very friendly and warmhearted family guesthouse with a view to the Mekong!

Do not be put off by negative reviews,.This place is good!

we chose the silver dolphin hostel because we knew they rent kayaks, it's advertised every where, even when you arrive there is a big sign saying "kayak for rent".
In the end they do not rent kayaks, they push to join to the expensive guided tours.....I understand but they shouldn't advertise they do it...
For the rest they rent scooters, bikes....there is a nice view from the top of the building to take nice pictures of the sun set

Normal accomodation, no kayak for rent

Staff were lovely (very wholesome family vibes) and we’re happy to help us book our kayaking tour. However, if you are looking for a social hostel this is not the place to go! Nice for down time and chill.
