Sok San Long Beach Bungalow

We only ate at the restaurant but found the food to be the best tasting of all the restaurants we had eaten in. Julian was a great host, always willing to help and advice us on local points of interest and his wife haloi very attentive.

Great food

We arrive to Sok San New Beach bungalows, upon arrival while checking in, all seemed fine until the the young lady’s mother came to show us to our room. This woman didn’t speak English, she stated to lead us to the back side across the road, this was strange as we had paid extra on agoda for a beach front bungalow. I stopped the woman before we even gon there and said “no no this is not right we had a beach front bungalow” she started to have and aggressive manner with me, I walked back to reception/restaurant and explained to the young girl of around 20 that checked us in, she did speak English, she told me they were all full and this was the only room they had left, I said “well I’m sorry this is just not good enough I paid extra for a beach front bungalow so if you can’t give me one I want a refund” all of a sudden the girl could no longer speak English and wanted me to call the boss in Sihanoukville, so I told her to call him, he hung up on me. Both women were very rude as if it was my fault, I was taking none of it, I started shouting over the to of them on front of there restaurant full of customers. All of a sudden the girl got the key and led me to 1 of 2 empty beach front bungalows, after this I was so mad we never ate there. The bungalow was like a squat also. But after having to fight for what I had paid for the atmosphere of our stay wasn’t nice, a big shame as the beach is beautiful. These people no nothing of hospitality and shouldn’t be aloud to deal with the public, be careful because they have 2 listings on Booking and Agoda “Sok San New Beach bungalows” and Sok SAN Beach Bungalows” probably they have done this because of all the bad reviews. Also ripped hammock was the icing on the cake! If I was soft or shy they would have walked all over me. Just avoid, wish I had!

Rude/Aggressive/Un Welcoming Staff, tried to rip me off! Pictures of the place on booking/Agoda are not what you come to

We booked a week at this establishment. Around 35 US per night. We arrived at 6 in th evening. NO water what so ever, we had light but the electric socket was not working. No charging avalaible. Probably the shabiest bungalows on the island. In general everything looked like is going to fall in pieces in the next minute. To start the padlock was same age as Captain Cook . Rusty as hell and almost imposible to unlock. I washed me hands in the sea with some sand  and still had some oil on. Tired as hell, sweaty and smelly slept and hoped that in the morning we will wake up somewhere else. Julian the host explained in the morning that the stuff forgot to put the water on and he explained that it will be bettter that we move somewhere else.  We got a refund and in 5 minutes found a much nicer bungalow for 20 US, with water, electricity, nice and clean and everything functional. Not to forget a very pleasant host that helped us with everything, tour booking , bike rental so on and so forth. As somebody wrote only for stupid or brave. But nobody is so stupid Mr. Julian!

Such a bad experience never again

Sadly sok San hasn't addressed its new tourism problem. If swimming in masses of plastic trash is your thing (septic too I guess) then go for it. As for the beach bungalow..... Where do I start. They had double booked most rooms when we arrived so I guess we were one of the lucky ones to get a room. Located right next to a neighbouring restuarant, we had the pleasure of endless dinner conversations up until about 11pm and at sun rise the owner would bark orders endlessly at his wife until about 7am. Mosquito nets had numerous holes, wash your turds down the shorter with the excess shower water (that had a uniquely undescibable smell), out of most items on the menu, warm beer, the list just goes on and on. Maybe 5 years ago with less tourism and more like $5 a night, it would have been somewhat better. Give it a miss.

Only for the brave or stupid

We arrived to check in and they didnt have our booking. When we said we booked 2 weeks ago, she was stunned, like '2 week' she said. They gave us keys to New Beach Bungalow which is set back off the beach. These are wood huts with uneven floors, cracks in the wood so if you drop something its gone for good. They are on a lake which has lots of things dumped in it and isnt looked after very well. The staff were unfriendly, always dismissive, borderline rude. We wont be returning here but the beach is great. Definitely a nice side of the island as its quite. Location was good just shame about the living standard and attitude of the staff/owners
