Pousada Chez Julie

This charming pousada is situated at the far end of the Alagoas State southern coast. This area is underrated and the infrastructure is not that great, but there are quite a few things to see and do around here and the Pousada Chez Julie makes a nice stop if you´re taking a cruise of the São Francisco River, visiting the colonial town of Penedo, or just hopping around the stunning remote beaches in this part of Alagoas. The Pontal do Peba is a long beach stretch where mostly shrimp fishermen live. So you can take long strolls along the beach without being bothered by mass tourism or too much litter on the beach. There are also a few tours that you can take like a buggy ride to the mouth of the mighty São Francisco River. The pousada has an agreement with a very professional tour operator called Farol da Foz and they organize local tours filled with information about the place. So I highly recommend this agency. The pousada is owned by a French couple, I think, but most of the guests I saw were Brazilian families or couples in retreat. This is the perfect hideaway if you want to steer clear from the madenning crowd and blaring music. The rooms are very simple, need a little bit of maintenance, but the garden and the surroundings are so peaceful that you will overlook some of the its flaws. The pousada is good value for money and its staff are great, helpful and friendly and the food scrumptious. So, if I were you, I´d visit this part of Alagoas for a few days and enjoy the peace and quiet of the nearby beaches and the river. And don´t miss the local seafood restaurants (which also serve cayman meat, by the way).
