This was a very enjoyable stay, Claudia and Anna the hosts are totally awesome and super nice!  They make a nice breakfast every morning.  The environment was very peaceful and relaxing and everything was clean.  I will defenitely stay here again when I return to Rio.  The location is nice in a safe neighborhood right near the Metro.  Also Claudia likes Seu Jorge, so thats a plus ;)

I liked the house very much. It's an old house with lovely style. The staff were friendly. Its an exellent location. They could improve by removing the mold from kitchen and bahroom. Also I was woken up 2 nights by continuous ringing of the doorbell very early morning (5 and 6am) but this was possibly just bad luck and not a regular thing...

Best Hostel EVER!

I enjoyed staying in the house.  I had a small room at on the second floor at the back of the house.  It had bunk beds, A/C, and a very strong fan.  It was reasonably comfortable with a shared bathroom.  The house is two levels and has 4 or 5 rooms, with one bathroom on each floor.  Each bathroom is shared and has a stand up shower and one toilet in each.  I never had to wait for a bathroom but found the upstairs bathroom in need of a strong cleaning.  The shower curtain was in desperate need of change or deep cleaning, as it has a great deal of mold on it.  The downstairs shower was stronger and the water was hotter, though both bathrooms were adequate. Other than a need for some deep cleaning, which it appeared they may have been doing at the end of my stay, the place is very comfortable and the staff is EXTREMELY nice and helpful.  The rooms seemed sufficiently clean.  I absolutely loved both of the ladies who worked there and I believe are the owners.  They were multilingual and kind.  They also helped in any way asked.  The breakfast was also nice.  Basic, but adequate.  There is also free wifi, which works well, especially downstairs.  I would recommend it and I would certainly stay there again.

The area around the house is very nice and close to the Botafogo Metro Station.  There are also many places to eat, bars and supermarkets near.  The area is quite charming and it is close enough to Botafogo beach that you can have a nice walk or run on the beach, which has trails that will take you through Botafogo beach and on to Flamengo beach as well as to Gloria.  It is a nice, safe and beautiful area. If you are OK with a simple but comfortable and affordable place to stay, I would say you should enjoy staying here.  It is a nice option in a wonderful area!

Good Budget Option in an Excellent Area

It is well-located, but at night there is not much people around, it feels a bit unsafe. Close to bars and the subway, the individual room is ok, but close to the door (so if you have a light sleeper, it can be annoying). It is cheap and the personell is very considerate.

Good option

I booked this hotel during a high demand time through booking.com with the terms that I had to pay 50% up front, with free cancellation up to a month out.  A couple of months after I made the reservation, Claudia, who I guess is the manager, tried shaking me down, threatening to cancel the reservation if I didn't pay the reservation off 100% via wire transfer, which was against the terms and also super shady.  I refused and had to get booking involved in order to maintain my reservation.

I was so unsettled by this experience that I canceled the reservation two months before the trip, which was well within the 100% refund period.  At this point, Claudia ceased all communication and refused to refund my money.  I had to get the credit card company and booking involved in order to get my refund.

So in summary, this hotel legitimately tried stealing my money, when I canceled in a way that was compliant with all policies.  They're crooks and I would 100% recommend that people stay away.
