133 reviewsOnce again, we decided to go to Visconde de Maua, a small mountain village between the cities of Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. And for the 4th year in a roll, we decided to stay at Refazenda Hotel. The first time we went there our son was 6 years old and, year after year, the options of what to do and where to eat have only broaden. The nature there is still in its essence and rides to falls or natural pools are a must go. The hotel has everything you can expect from a mountain hotel: swimming pools (out and indoors), comfortable rooms, lots of green, space for kids to play ball, breakfast included and the unique hospitality of the owners. They are certainly the heart of the place! I wouldn't advise you to go there if it wasn't really worth it! We have never been there in July (winter in Brazil) and we've been told the temperature can go as low as -8. In the summer, the temperature is cool (ranging from 22 to 26 Celsius) and we can take advantage of its beauties. Alice, Aurea and Ariel run the hotel for their mother and they do a pretty good job at it. If you need anything there, they are the people to go to. The only issue is that during the high season prices are expensive and it is really difficult to get a discount once they are almost always fully booked in July / August or late December, January and February.
