Pousada O Forte

If people watching, night life, shops and tourist facilities are your thing, then stop at Praia de Forte. If on the other hand you are looking for the perfect, palm fringed, white sand beach- pristine (so very clean) and virtually deserted then head 100 km North to Mangue Seco. We have travelled extensively and this is one of the most beautiful, unspoilt beaches we have found- miles (as far as the eye can see) of beautiful white sand, warm water, with a few beach shacks at the Northern end. NO development. Mangue Seco is a sand bar and reached by boat from Pontal on the other side of the lagoon which separates Mangue Seco from the mainland. On arrival into Pontal, a man ran across to show us where to park up the car. He then carried our bags to his power boat, informed Pousada O Forte that we were coming, and we set off across the lagoon. What better way to travel, and on arrival our bags were collected into a barrow and wheeled to Pousada O Forte. This is a simple Pousada facing the lagoon, with a short walk to the beach (where there are no accommodation options). The Pousada provides a good breakfast, and a short, simple and tasty evening menu. The swimming pool is excellent. Rooms are relatively small, and simple, good air conditioning, somewhat dubious electrics, and a comfortable bed. We stayed 2 nights, you could stay longer, but we’d advise against a 1 night stay – you simply would not do justice to this oh so beautiful beach.
