This is a typical simple Brazilian Pousada. It is very clean and the grounds are well cared for. It is next to a brook. Choose from chalets or hotel rooms. Some rooms have fireplaces and whirlpools. Breakfast is included and is very good. The Hotel Bertell is in the town of Penendo RJ. Which is near the Itatiaia National Park The pousada is in walking distance to the restaurants and shopping. Penendo is a small town with a Finish influence. To get to the park you need a car or you can hire a guide service in the town. There are waterfalls in an easy hike and for the more adventurous there are trails to views in the mountains. We spent a weekend and enjoyed out stay the trout was delicious. They do not speak English so speaking Portuguese is helpful. It took us 4 hours to drive from Sao Paulo. It is right off the Dutra so it is easy to get to and to find. It is probably about 3 hours from Rio. It is suitable for families with children as some of the chalets are larger. The photos on the web site are accurate.
