228 reviewsSubauma is a small village about 100 kilometers north of Salvador. It is far from being a tourist town which is one of its beauties. Since it is not a major international tourist attraction, however, English is not a common language so learn some basic Portuguese, or be like me and have family here. Tree Bies is a resort/condominium that is far above the other smaller hotels. Let me repeat. By far. It consists of two swimming pools, fully equipped apartments, and hotel rooms. They recently added a beach club that serves lunches and has direct access to one of the nicest beaches around. All rooms are air conditioned and other than hotel portion, have balconies. Free breakfasts are wonderful as is the on premise restaurant. Swim up bar and bar in beach club are two good ways to spend an afternoon. The staff cannot be more accommodating. It is as tropical as you are going to find, anywhere in world. As I mentioned I have a daughter/son-in-law/grandchildren that live Subauma and I normally just stay with them; however, when I want to turn a family visit into a vacation, I check in to Tree Bies. I have seen the property develop over the last decade. It is reasonably priced, particularly now when the dollar is so strong. For Americans I say this: Why go to a foreign country to surround yourself with other Americans? Branch out and experience the real country that you are visiting. If you want to experience the way of life of the majority of Brazilians (meaning not in Rio, Sao Paulo, Salvador, or other major cities) fly into Salvador (SSA), rent a car (an SUV would be nice), drive about 100 kilometers north on Verde Linda (BR101) to Subauma. I think if you arrange with them, they will pick you up at airport. If you have your own transportation, you will be able to explore other local places. They also provide tours and water sport activities. You will not be disappointed with Tree Bies. Of course if you are looking for night life of Rio, go to Rio. When you get there find a friend of mine who works there named Piexe (real name is Marcos Antonio but everyone calls him Piexe (Portuguese for "fish") and tell him Don Sheldon sent you. He will get a laugh out of it.
